Coaches need to pour over more game film than the players do, so they're accountable for recognizing what players can and cannot do. As has been said in here a bunch -- it's on the coaches to put the players into the best position to succeed.Surely, they can see that Tank Bigsby has a 9.2 ypr average on 17 carries while Barkley has a 3.8 ypr average on 175 carries. They need to analyze Bigsby's carries to understand what's working. Are the defenses playing a lighter box when he's on the field? Is he breaking more tackles? Barkley ran for 2,000+ yards last season, but the NFL is Not For Long -- every season is different, so they need to coach Barkley as though he's just arrived. If there's something he's not doing, he needs to be coached on it.Same with the WRs. Brown needs to be coached up on how to improve his 58.5% catch percentage. Obviously, same with the QB; Hurts has a lot of really good metrics, but the overall production of the offense is down -- they're 16th in points scored. Too many 3-and-outs, those need to be eliminated. Not enough discipline. I truly, truly think that the player-first approach has went too far in one direction as brought in from owner down. I think they'd be substantially better if they were about 15% less player friendly, and put that 15% into discipline. Nick early on was very details oriented and kind of anal about it, he needs to go back to that. It was one of his best traits.

Could be interesting. The silver lining is that more games that Fred Johnson starts, they can find out if he's a viable temporary replacement for Lane next year if he retires. He's a free agent after this season. He could work as a 1-2 year stop gap while they draft and develop the next long-term RT.

So basically the QB situation was still in flux where as Jalen has been our starter the last 5 years. The 2018 team despite it's struggles were an Alshon pass away from potentially upsetting the Saints, we basically brought everyone back but took a huge step back. 13-3 #1 Seed to 9-7 Wild Card. Again defending a title is hard. No NFC Team has gone back to back since the Cowboys. Seahawks got the closet.Loved AJ but that drop was horrible. Doug still should have waited for the 2 min warning, though.

Was traveling all day yesterday, so I've had some time to think it over and try and wrap my head around WTF is going on with the offense.OFFENSEI know this might sound crazy, but I felt like the offense was closer this week but just kept getting in its own way. 1st drive -- Lane holding call gets us into 1st and 20, kills us. 2nd drive was the FG after the pick. 3rd drive we get a 1st down and then get to 2nd and 3 and 3rd and 1...only to run Barkley out of the FB position. After a couple 3 and outs, we go FG and then TD. After a 3 and out to start the 2nd half (Steen "false start" on tush push on 3rd and 1), we did manage to avoid 3 and outs the rest of the way (baby steps). But multiple times we got to 2nd and 3rd and less than 5 and somehow shot ourselves in the foot. That shouldn't continue.Thank you. Several penalties and negative runs killing drives. I have no idea why Patullo has those on his play sheet.

November 18Nov 18 Author I am not suggesting that Calcaterra is a great blocker. But he is in the same role as last season, when Barkley ran for 2K. And there were several runs where he pulled from the opposite side with the guard to clear a path for Barkley. His role should be filled by a better blocking TE. But I'd look elsewhere for the cause of the decline in the running game. Like maybe every member of the OL playing below their 2024 level.

This is not a strong suit of the HC, holding his staff accountable. To be fair, he had no leverage on Gannon because it was a last game of the season collapse, and he was leaving anyway which is what caused part of the collapse (combined with the terrible field). I think like I said, there's a lack of discipline and it comes from the FO down. 15% less friendly probably results in a drastic improvement. People rarely understand this, but even though coaches like Tom Coughlin were too harsh, they also had a point, that discipline in the game really matters.

November 18Nov 18 I believe the offensive issues are more complicated than "Patullo is a moron" and frankly anyone who thinks it's that simple is also a moron. But there's no denying that the coaching is a significant factor. That 3rd and long play to Granson was a designed play. To your 3rd TE. Who isn't even good and probably would be unemployed if the Eagles released him. Them using Calcaterra a ton to block when he may be the worst blocking TE in football is coaching malpractice. Running 4 hitch routes on 3rd and longs is bad coaching. I think a lot of people are stuck in the "Is it the players or the coaching?" mindset, and the answer is it's both. Sometimes there are plays to be made and the players aren't making them. Other times there are no plays to be made because the coaching is poor. Put that all together and you have the highest paid offense in the NFL playing like a bottom 5 unit.

But it's enough that nearly everyone has noticed the running game has been a bit more effective and explosive with his carries. It's enough that they need to dive into all their reps for a better understanding. Maybe Barkley is getting caught in the backfield with too much big game hunting, maybe he's not doing a good enough job running through contact compared to last year, or maybe defenses are just stacking the crap out of the box when he's in the backfield. But something is different. And if it is all defenses stacking the box against Barkley, why aren't we passing at a higher clip when he's on the field?
