At the end of his weekly WIP Morning Show interview on Monday, Pederson was asked if he feels like his job is in jeopardy. "Listen, I don’t,” Pederson said. "I feel fully confident to be the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021. The thing that I’m the most proud of with this football team, we’ve been in the postseason three of the last five years since I’ve been here. And that’s pretty good. We’ve won a championship here. "We’ve gone through a season where a lot of our veteran guys are not playing due to injury. We’re playing with a lot of young players. Yeah, there’s always going to be a lot of evaluation in the offseason. Obviously, my job is evaluated as well. But I fully expect to be the coach next season and I welcome that opportunity to get things right and get things fixed and take this team into next season." It’s unclear if Pederson has been provided any assurances from ownership about his job in 2021 or if this is just his feeling based on his relationships in the building. It’s important to note that just because Pederson says he’s safe, that doesn’t necessarily mean he is. Sure, the Eagles have dealt with injuries this season but that doesn’t completely excuse their double-digit loss season. And while it’s great that they won a Super Bowl to close the 2017 season, they are 22-24-1 since then. The Eagles fell to 4-10-1 with their 37-17 loss to the rival Cowboys on Sunday afternoon and they have now lost six of their last seven games since the bye week. If the season ended today, they would have the No. 6 draft pick. Owner Jeffrey Lurie will have some tough decisions to make this offseason. He’ll have to decide the future of Pederson and general manager Howie Roseman, who is responsible for putting together this roster that has four wins in 2020. On Sunday night, Pederson mentioned some disappointment in himself for the struggles this season and was later asked a follow-up question about that disappointment. "I mean, you know, you look at decisions. You look at opportunities to put the team in better situations; all things that I will evaluate when I look back on the year,” Pederson said. "I’m part of the solution moving forward, too, and I’ve got to look at myself and as the leader of the football team and standing up front of the guys and they are disappointed obviously. So next best scenario IMO is that Lurie restructures the FO a bit to bring in a GM that has a real eye for talent to handle the draft and talent evaluation and adjusting Howie's responsibilities to focus on handling contracts and managing the salary cap and gives Doug a directive that he needs to give up play calling duties and focus on the bigger picture of managing the team - hire a seasoned, creative OC to take over the offensive play calling duties and lead the offensive minds involved in play design / game planning. CalgarEAGLES Posted December 28, 2020 Share Posted December 28, 2020 Once, this nightmarish of a season is over & we know exactly where we stand on the upcoming draft, I want it to be a brainstorming type of who to draft vs. the bs BPA mantra of the current GM( it obviously isn’t working) Jeff Lurie’s end of year state of the team address will be very interesting, there’ll be subtle hints & innuendos for sure. A win now is actually loss on draft day lol (and don't tell me owners don't call down to the coaches). NOTW Posted December 28, 2020 Share Posted December 28, 2020 Howie and Doug have easy scapegoats: injuries, relying on young players not ready yet, COVID (even though every team is in that situation) and self-inflicted wounds they believe they can correct. And Doug says he's made the playoffs 3/5 seasons and won a championship. There's the case, despite many fans seeing that without major change things will just get worse. That would be a good way forward IMO. It would have to be clear to Howie that he has No, Zero, Nada input on the draft selections.
