Kz!
So they're trying to put an anonymous Twitter troll in prison for 10 years for making memes. Obviously, this move will be cheered in here, but does anyone else find the story disturbing? https://nypost.com/2021/01/27/alt-right-twitter-troll-ricky-vaughn-busted-for-voter-disinformation/ The meme that got him in hot water encouraged people to text in their votes for Hillary in 2016. "Avoid the Line. Vote from Home. Text ‘Hillary’ to 59925. Vote for Hillary and be a part of history.” There is, however, no evidence that this stopped anyone from voting as people who were fooled by the meme received a message explaining that this wasn't a legitimate way to vote and to cast their votes in person. I feel like this sets a pretty dangerous precedent.
dawkins4prez
I dunno about 10 years, but the precedent of not punishing is worse IMHO. Doesn't take Nostradomus to see how this line of behavior actually affect an election one day.

As the most libertarian poster in the history of CVON, I can assure you that protecting the civil rights of oppressed minorities is the most libertarian thing ever. The fact that the Biden administration is taking civil rights so seriously makes a bold statement. I know its only been 2 weeks in, but it's definitely time to start discussing whether Biden is in fact the most libertarian president ever. vikas83
This is ridiculous. It's not his fault if people believed his BS. No way this should be a crime. If he were posing as some kind of authority, employee of the secretary of state's office...OK, maybe. But as "Ricky Vaughn" on Twitter? Yeah...there's no crime here. Ridiculous. mayanh8
Intentionally spreading targeted disinformation so a certain group of people are tricked into not voting properly should 100% be a crime. It's the online equivalent of setting up fake ballot drop boxes.

As long as it hurts the other side, it will be cheered on gleefully. So this lady should get 10 years, too, right? And that kind of precedent isn't terrifying at all? NOTW
Since memes are now a crime, time to shut down the political pics thread. Next they'll be coming for: Anyone who forwarded an email about a Nigerian prince with inheritance money to give you Porn sites claiming hot women in your area want to F you Blogs that promise shocking photos but the preview photo never appears in the slideshow Directors of movies where scenes from the trailer aren't in the movie itself Restaurant owners when the food doesn't match how good it looks in the photo (see: Falling Down for reference) Dating profile users who don't look like their pictures Women using SnapChat filters to hide their flaws Doug Pederson for claiming that celebrating Super Bowl parades was "the new normal" Vegan "hot wings" that are just cauliflower with hot sauce

DEagle7
Jail time seems like a lot. I know it's a fine line between defrauding people and election security fraud needs to be taken seriously, but still. A few years back there were highway billboards saying the world was ending and I don't remember anyone getting jail time over it. Now a twitter ban? Sure. Yeah, I think you'd probably have to provide some specific instance of this delusion or else it just kind of reads like gibberish, bootlicker. toolg
If the precedent is break the law, end up in jail... I have no problem setting that precedent. It says he faces "up to" 10 years in prison. I don't think he deserves the harshest sentence. Maybe he gets paroled early? Once he's out he'll still have time to work on his fastball and correct his vision. What happens when they decide making lame jokes on the emb is against the law and I report you to the FBI for the bolded? Would you be happy going to jail for that? Would you?
