Didn't expect to hear an endorsement for herd immunity, but that's great.

When you ignore all the unnecessary death and suffering...I guess?

They've got less deaths per 100K than New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts, so they're doing pretty good if they've achieved herd immunity.

I doubt they've actually achieved herd immunity. My response was somewhat facetious, but I'm sure that the massive community spread earlier in the year has played a role. The other thing, though, is that it's a warm-weather climate, so you won't see the same kind or degree of seasonal variarion like you would in the Northeast.

Florida is 6.5% of the US population but accounts for 9% of COVID deaths in 2021.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109011/coronavirus-covid19-death-rates-us-by-state/

I guess Mr. cherry picker supreme is using these #'s that also show 10 of the top 14 as deep red states.

10 to 1 mate.  At this point its the only stat that matters.

Old people die.  That's what they do.

Errm they have the 3rd highest death rate of any state. Only California and Jesus-land are higher.

And we all remain terribly disappointed by that fact.

To be fair, the population density of Singapore is 18645 per square mile. The US is 93. For comparison, NYC is 27k and Chicago is 18K.

Average age in Singapore is 42, average age in the US is 38, so they also have an older (and thus more vulnerable) population.

So denser and older will almost certainly end with higher infection rates regardless of vaccination levels or mask mandates. The vaccines are a stop gap anyway. And yes, like the flu, they don’t actually make you immune and need to be updated for different strains. The idea is to curb symptoms and prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed.

But let’s be honest that you’d expect a higher infection and death rate in an older, denser country than a younger one with vast rural areas and a huge population living in suburbia.

Frankly, the politicalization of COVID is disgusting. Everyone thinks they’re a Fing expert when even actual experts have disagreements over the level of the vaccine’s effectiveness and the best course of public health policy.

The simple truth is we don’t know for certain much other than most people will receive a short term benefit from the vaccine and most people won’t have any short term adverse reactions. We don’t know how many deaths Singapore’s vaccination rate and mask mandate prevented. We don’t know what it would be otherwise.

You should have a few drinks before driving in to work to celebrate.

Death rate does not equal total deaths, professor.

And they have a much larger elderly population than most states.

Basically. One is completely scientifically illiterate and seems to draw most of his income from YouTube views and the other openly cheers on cop killers and sex traffickers. Other than that, yeah, pretty much the same person.

For your information, my family only uses the loose leaf variety.

Teabags? what are we, postmen?

Oh take my word for it, there is at least one member of your family that absolutely loves teabags. She can't get enough of them.
