The Philadelphia Eagles hired former Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell on Thursday.AP

The Eagles added a notable name to their front office on Thursday.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell was hired as a personnel executive, the team announced. Caldwell served as the Jaguars GM from 2013-2020. He was relieved of his GM duties in the middle of last season.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Caldwell served as a draft consultant for the Baltimore Ravens this offseason.

Caldwell had an up-and-down stint with the Jaguars after inheriting a broken roster in 2013. While the team only made the playoffs once during his tenure, the Jaguars did make it all the way to the AFC Championship game following the 2017 season.

During his time with the Jaguars, Caldwell drafted the likes of WR DJ Chark, CB Jalen Ramsey, RB Leonard Fournette, LB Myles Jack, DE Yannick Ngakoue, WR Allen Robinson, DE Josh Allen and CB C.J. Henderson.

He also signed notable undrafted players like CB Tre Herndon, WR Allen Hurns, WR Keelan Cole, RB James Robinson and DT Abry Jones.

Caldwell was particularly successful in scouting wide receivers, linebackers and defensive backs during his time in Jacksonville. He gives the Eagles an experienced scouting voice in the front office, as well as another former GM mind to support Howie Roseman.

Caldwell could effectively replace John Dorsey as the personnel executive for Roseman and VP of Player Personnel Andy Weidl to turn to with roster moves. Caldwell has worked in the NFL in a scouting capacity since 1996. He comes from the Bill Polian GM tree.

Along with the hiring of Caldwell, the Eagles promoted Catherine Raîche to VP of Football Operations and Ameena Soliman to pro scout.

According to the Eagles, Raîche will be involved in all areas of football operations and player personnel, including pro and college scouting, contract management, player/staff development, and football research. She was previously the Football Operations/Player Personnel Coordinator for the past two seasons.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Raîche is the highest-ranking female personnel executive in league history.

Soliman has spent four years with the organization, working her way up from personnel intern to personnel coordinator to pro scout.

Ian Cunningham, who interviewed for the Carolina Panthers’ assistant GM job this offseason, was also promoted from assistant director of player personnel to director of player personnel.

Call me old school, but I think its healthy for society to have activities that are all-male.  The all male NFL front offices, coaching staffs, officiating crews - they did nothing to harm society.  Practically all businesses employ both sexes.  Let pro sports be the exception.  There are no shortage of businesses that are all female.  And in any event, there is no reason why this should be a big story or why it should be an objective for NFL teams.

If these 2 moves make the Eagles' front office better, then I'm for it. If they don't then undo the moves.
