I try to read Fox and CNN (or NBC) every day to get the filtered mainstream propaganda from each side.  Fox went from everything being pro-Trump to a mixed bag with plenty of stuff that wasn't particularly kind to Trump over the last six months.  Of course they still threw in a lot of pro Trump stuff as well and generally were still pro Trump indirectly from a general view thru their pro right and pro Republican stance.  So not a 180 by any stretch but still a pretty significant watering down.  That became especially true as we got into mid-December.

I caught wind of Michael Smerconish on CNN a few weekends ago while having coffee on a Saturday morning.  Never heard of him.  From the Philly area.  Man...I am all in on that guy.  I am close to a combination of him and..... gasp.....Greg Gutfeld (Snark and sarcasm) from Fox.  Smerconish had a great point about the media.  He said, the best practice is to have a "mixed diet....don't always eat from the same silo".  He's dead on......if everyone would just do more of that and less beating their own sides drum....we would be doing better as a country.

I remember Fox News telling Trump if he was watching them to turn his lights on and off. I don't remember if they said it was fake afterwards.

If you ignore one point of view you lose perspective. Sometimes just for something one side or the other is not saying.

When I was in my early 20s I had a couple older colleagues from socialist Hungary on my team (long story as to how that happened).  One in particular used to tell me a lot of Hungary and what it was like to live in the Eastern bloc, etc. (mostly dreadful).  He taught me the art of consuming the various sides of the information flow and learning to read between the lines.  Sometimes we'd talk about how the US would portray a particular event or group and compare it to how the same item was portrayed in the Soviet bloc.  The entire narrative changed simply based on the perspective.  "Freedom fighters" in one media outlet became "rebels" in another.  If you follow the mixed diet approach I dare say you'll end up closer to the truth than not doing so. To do it right you need to include the populist stuff like CNN/Fox but also try to dig a bit more into the more serious stuff (I try to keep up with stuff like the Economist, Atlantic, Reason, some WSJ, etc and some stuff from the conservative think tanks).

Takes some time but my single daughter is in college now so i have a good bit.

Very true.  Often it is what's not said that tells the most.

I have been a fan of Smerconish since the Mumia Abu Jamal case. He was Republican, but he is a Centrist.

I'll just say this.  I am not saying the election was rigged or "stolen" and I have long moved past that, Trump has only himself to blame.  But any election that was that close and multiple states took that long to count electronic and mail in votes, would have been questioned regardless of who won.  And whoever was questioning it would seem like sour grapes.  Bottom line is, they took it wayyyyyyy too far and they lost whatever viable message they think they had once they started acting like morons....oh and Rudy's makeup started to run.  It was all over then.

Yea, I was gonna say Covid made things much, much more difficult for all phases of this whole thing.  And those late nights waiting for the next 'dump' of vote tallies to come in were frustrating as hell.

10-15 years ago he was on the local republican AM talk radio station here and became a well known name, prior to going national on CNN IIRC.

even at the time the other hosts on the same channel seemed derisive towards him, because he was much of a sane, rational voice than - say - Rush. he leaned firmly right, but was not afraid of real dialog and would engage with people of opposing views. his style wasn't to shout people down, but to actually have an open discussion.

so, of course, he's been derided as a RINO ever since.

Guys, in case you have not realized, soon it will be hours, not days, or day, until Joe Biden is POTUS.

I hope they are all ready to go in New York.

Can't find him anywhere.  If it's pre-recorded, it might not be covered asap.

Odds that after he got word that a military parade was a no go for tomorrow morning he calls the ceremony off?

what's great about that is that nobody cares.

even fox appears to be broadcasting Biden landing at the airport ahead of the inauguration.

nobody cares about Donnie anymore. don't give him oxygen and he will die.
