President Donald Trump’s approval rating among Republican voters is back on the uptick after it dropped earlier this month following the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by a group of Trump supporters, underscoring the political risk facing Senate Republicans who are set to decide the president’s fate in their chamber’s upcoming impeachment trial.

Morning Consult Political Intelligence tracking conducted Jan. 15-17 found 79 percent of Republican voters approve of the outgoing president, up 3 percentage points from 76 percent in polling conducted Jan. 10-12, before 10 House Republicans joined all Democrats in voting to impeach Trump on a charge of inciting the insurrection that resulted in the deaths of five people, including a Capitol Police officer.

This boggles my mind. And honestly is a little frightening. I’m still a registered R who despises what he’s done to my party, and I’m surprised I’m in the vast minority of republicans with my opinion of him. My hope is that the party moves away from fringe, but I think it’s too late. maybe Donald will start the new party and splinter off the crazies

Actually, winning with 51/100 votes is the definition of majoritarian. Anyway, I'm just calling it as I see it coming, not really taking a side on this matter right now.

Here's the problem with your position, grown up TJ.

One EMB poster is the left, but 79% of the GOP still supporting a President who encouraged sedition, is not the GOP.

You're a joke. A pretend elitist.

Biden beat Bernie in the primary. That's the difference. The fringe won the GOP, and was beaten back by the dems.

Rasmussen was nice enough to give him the 51% overall approval rating on his last day. Politico meanwhile has him at 39%

We all do.  Thats what Trump has wrought in this country.

This is why Biden's platform is centered around being a President for all Americans, and not just the ones who voted for him.

Don't give me that.  He was doing that on the old board long before Trump... spare me that.

Oh and yeah....he's the only President to ever say that.  Come on.

Just saying it was one of the more heavily talked about points of his campaign.

Who knows how much it resonated with moderate Republicans.

I'm hopeful that time serves to begin to close that gap.

I don't disagree that how he managed to win in 2016 was very much a black swan event.

But what the party did the following four years - both in Washington and on the ground - was elevate this demagogue to cult leader status.

thou doth protest too much. The Republican party is going to take a while to recover.
