Carson Wentz and the Colts pick - officially #16 (topic closed)

I fully expected the pick to be a 2nd from the get go so I'm not disappointed. I was elated then that we jettisoned an underperforming and massively expensive injury risk of a player and I still am pleased the Eagles got a return of any kind.

According to Brandon Pirna, here is Wentz's foot specialist:

We’re just lucky we were able to get rid of this guy while he still had some value.

Right, moreover, we're lucky to have gotten the return on the trade.

Maybe we can attribute the trade return to an ego of of Frank Reich, it could be he thinks he's the reason Wentz played well in 2017, had it not been for him I wouldn't have been surprised if he best we could do was a 3rd.

I don’t know. I kind of feel like the Bears were players and could have given a better deal to the Eagles, but Wentz wasn’t willing to go there. Wentz forced his way to Indy and he’s there problem now.

The Bears did the right thing by not gambling, I'd take Fields over Wentz anyday.

Definitely would have been a huge blowup if they gave a legit first to the Eagles for a guy that is already hurt.

The Vikings just had three quarterbacks go into Covid protocol. So much for that one dope around he stating all the quarterbacks in the league were showing leadership by being vaccinated. :nonono:

The reports started out as a minor foot injury and now the very best you hear is that it's not a Lisfranc but it's about 50 50 between journalists saying it's not and journalists saying it is, and let's be honest if he's felt something pop in his foot, the injury 'involves a bone and a ligament' and they've got an orthopaedic foot specialist reviewing scans it's hard to see how its not Lisfranc.

To trigger the 1st rounder he'd have to play every snap of almost 12 and three quarter games, if it is a Lisfranc he'll be in a boot until week 4 or 5.

We're getting a second.

Did anyone actually see him get injured during practice? Smells real fishy after his vaccination obscurity PC

You can still get covid if you are vaccinated.

Eagles seem to be (at least according to the media) quarterback thirsty. After all this is the "quarterback factory” isn’t it? Personally I’d rather they keep their own picks and draft a guy and other talent rather than use them to get a guy on an older roster that lacks young talent. Best case scenario if Hurts pans out and that’s one less pick used on that position.

Yeah but there’s an important point to consider: the Eagles aren’t all that great at drafting lately and draft picks in general are over-rated commodities.

Watch this turn into a dispute with the organization, where the team wants him to get the surgery and heal properly, and Wentz refuses to do so.

They haven’t exactly nailed their trades or long term free agent signings lately either. Howie needs to do better at talent evaluations. If they bring Watson here and he doesn’t have talent around him then he will be whining his way out of town here too.

Looks like that’s already begun. From the start I had a feeling he wouldn’t get the surgery, will try and play through it, and will eventually be out for the season.

Mike Zimmer slams his quarterback room, unvaccinated Americans after COVID-19 outbreak.

Only Jake Browning, per the Minneapolis Star Tribune, was available for the practice. Zimmer said that Browning is vaccinated, which is why he doesn’t have to isolate like the others in the room.

Sure vaccinated people can still get COVID, but that isn’t what happened here.

They still haven't stated exactly what the injury is. It may be something that he can play through anyway and the decision to rest and rehab allows him to start the season where the surgery may require more immediate time to heal. If he can play through it, this decision is no big deal. If it's an injury he can't play through, then this could be a mistake on his part --- like the DJax decision  a couple years ago.

I get the feeling if he’s given the option he won’t choose surgery. Many guys don’t choose the surgery option until it’s too late. No matter how you slice it, starting the season (before even preseason) with an injury is troubling and does make that first round pick concerning.

Meh, I've already moved on an accepted the 2nd round pick.

We've seen this movie before, with other players too. Get surgery asap and be back for meaningful football.

It’s almost like we’ve seen him do that before.

In his defense he’s not the only guy to pull this type of move in the NFL. Jackson did it last season as others have mentioned. I don’t think guys in the NFL like surgeries.

Still I gotta give credit to Howie for getting 4 picks in the first two rounds in the draft next year. Gives the Eagles a lot of options as long as he doesn’t screw up and give all those options to the Texans. On a side note I already feel vindicated even if this wasn’t directly related to covid. Close it down. I was right. 😂

Do we?  2 of those picks he gets just for being a team in the NFL.   That took no effort, no brilliant plan.  The Lions, the Cardinals, the Jags... they all get a pick in the first round, and the second round.   There's nothing fancy about that.  He moved back from #6 and got an extra pick.  Big whoop.  That's not a tough thing to do.  Teams do it all the time.   He traded Wentz and got a conditional pick.  Not impressed.   Nothing Howie has done has been impressive this offseason.  And he continues to kick more money into 2022.   Great job, Howie.

Moved back from 6 got the extra pick and still drafted Devonte Smith. I’m not a Howie guy but that was a nice move.
