China has claimed the balloon flying over the U.S. as its own. Here's everything you need to know.

China has claimed responsibility for the balloon spotted over Montana, apologizing and stating it was used for weather research.

"The airship is from China,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday morning. "It is a civilian airship used for research, mainly meteorological, purposes. Affected by the Westerlies and with limited self-steering capability, the airship deviated far from its planned course.

"The Chinese side regrets the unintended entry of the airship into U.S. airspace due to force majeure. The Chinese side will continue communicating with the U.S. side and properly handle this unexpected situation caused by force majeure.”

He does have a track record.

As VP in Obama's administration Iran boarded US ships and detained prone military personnel at gun point.

There is also the matter of the hacked and captured drone they didn't destroy. I wonder how much of that tech is being used in Ukraine.

Havana syndrome strikes again in Vietnam, ahead of VP trip there.

Now being reported that another incident occurred last year to a top DoD official at a summit in Lithuania that was attended by Biden. Havana Syndrome being caused by a directed energy weapon of some sort is one of the few conspiracy theories I kinda believe in.

Pretty decent article on failed diplomacy early on in Afghanistan.

Quote

Although accusations of American incompetence in Afghanistan now focus on those last days in August 2021, the real error had been made long before, at the moment of the United States’ greatest victory there: the fall of the Taliban in December 2001. Flush with success, hungry for vengeance, and confident of the Taliban’s complete defeat, the United States sought neither reconciliation nor compromise with Afghanistan’s former leaders. Instead, it sought to make an example of them. In doing so, the George W. Bush administration planted the seeds for the Taliban insurgency that would emerge and eventually wipe away two decades of sacrifice in Afghanistan.

War in Afghanistan was lost when the Iraq War broke out. By the sounds of this article, it was before that even. The US military is unstoppable on the battlefield, so no doubt the Taliban regime was quickly and easily toppled early in the war. However there was no plan to build a new government. We are not interested in nation building halfway across the world. So we told Afghanistan they need to figure out their own leadership. The people in Afghanistan are only loyal to their local tribal clans and leaders. They are not loyal to foreigners. So is it any surprise that the country that built the Taliban in the first place, eventually gave the Taliban back their power years later?

Iraqi lawmakers pass a bill that critics say legalizes child marriage | CNN

Proponents of the changes, which were advocated by primarily conservative Shiite lawmakers, defend them as a means to align the law with Islamic principles and reduce Western influence on Iraqi culture.

Iraqi law currently sets 18 as the minimum age of marriage in most cases. The changes passed Tuesday would let clerics rule according to their interpretation of Islamic law, which some interpret to allow marriage of girls in their early teens – or as young as 9 under the Jaafari school of Islamic law followed by many Shiite religious authorities in Iraq.

One U.S. dollar is worth $1.44 Canadian. Canada's economy, in what is called "Managed Decline" can't afford to be snippy. All they have to do is reduce their tariffs and we will do likewise. This isn't rocket science. I love Canada and, especially, Canadians, but their government is taking them on a ride. Sorry, but that's the truth
