"IT’S A LOSERS MENTALITY:” JASON KELCE REFUSES TO BLAME THE OFFICIATING FOR EAGLES LOSS TO WASHINGTON

November 16, 2022

Jason Kelce

Jason Kelce has never been one to blame others for the shortcomings of his team.

On Monday, Kelce’s team dropped their first game of the season, losing to the Washington Commanders 32-21. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong for the Eagles. They coughed up possession a season-high four times, were beat in time of possession by over 20 minutes, and of course, there were a handful of questionable calls (and no-calls) that halted the Eagles from gaining any serious momentum.

The game was essentially sealed on a penalty, when Brandon Graham hit QB Taylor Heinicke after the Washington signal caller gave himself up in the backfield.

Just moments earlier, the refs missed an egregious face mask penalty on TE Dallas Goedert. The Eagles tight end fumbled the ball on the play, due in large part to his helmet being ripped off his head by a Washington defender. To make matters even worse, Goedert injured his shoulder on the play and has been placed on injured reserve.

In the wake of the loss, Eagles fans and national pundits alike have pointed out the inexcusable officiating during Monday night’s contest. Jason Kelce, however, isn’t having any of it.

Jason Kelce refuses to blame the refs for Monday night’s loss

"I cannot stand people blaming referees,” Kelce said on the most recent episode of the New Heights Show. "We had so many opportunities to win that football game that we didn’t take care of. There’s a feeling now more than ever, and I think part of it is because of replay and the ability to slow things down, and everything’s in high definition. So, it’s very apparent when an official doesn’t make the correct call or misses something, right? You gotta go out there and play the game that’s called. That was a facemask on Dallas Goedert? No it wasn’t. You wanna know why? Cause they didn’t Fin’ throw a damn flag.”

This is a Football Guy take from Jason Kelce and we should all take notes on how he’s approaching the situation.

The refs missed some calls, it happens every single week. The Eagles benefit from missed calls all the time, as does every team in this league.

In the end, if a team is at the mercy of the officiating crew, more often than not, they didn’t do enough throughout the game to win. It’s the reality of the NFL. And chances are, the refs will end up helping the Eagles in a game or two down the stretch this season.

Jason Kelce realizes that and we should all take a page out of his book.
