I feel like baseball is the one sport that is so entrenched in historical stats that if the league does decide to shorten the season then they need to start the record books all over again. Hitting .400 just became much more attainable and 20 win seasons for a pitcher can probably be thrown out the window.

That’s why 50 games is FUBAR.

Yep, I thought the same thing at the time. Now, he won't see a MLB field until September 2021 at the earliest but more likely, spring training 2022.

This is right up there with Djax not getting sports hernia surgery last year only to come back after a couple months, get re-injured and have the surgery anyway, ending his season

Only 75% if postseason is completed.

BREAKING: AP sources say Major League Baseball has made a new offer to start the season, proposing teams guarantee 50% of players’ prorated salaries over a 76-game regular season and increase the money to 75% if the postseason is completed.

Way to waste 2.5 years of your career.

The baseball owners and players truly are morons.  While every other league is doing what it can to get back to playing games these clowns are busy arguing over the deck furniture on the Titanic.

What happens to FA if they cancel the year? People slated to be on the market still available or do they kick it a year?

This article is from back in March, it sounds like it's part of the stalled negotiations.

NEW YORK — Mookie Betts and all the players set to be free agents after the 2020 season will still get that chance if there is no baseball this year, part of a broad deal being negotiated by the commissioner’s office and the players’ association.  If there’s no season because of the new coronavirus, the agreement would credit major leaguers with the same service time this year that they earned in 2019, a person familiar with the talks told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because talks were ongoing.  Service time affects a player’s status for free agency, salary arbitration and the pension plan. The likely service time agreement was first reported by The Athletic.

Phils just got one of the most talented arms in the draft.

They needed to take the chance on him. Besides Spencer Howard they really don’t have great SP in their system and he has electric stuff if they can team him how to control and pitch.

i believe first pitcher they’ve taken in the first round since nola in 2014

Isn't the track record of high school pitchers kinda poor? I guess Hamels was an exception. Maybe Brett Myers too. But it seems like they usually fizzle out somewhere along the line.

A little concerned that the Mets just got a player who’s mom is the mom of Billy Heywood (owner and one time manager of the Twins).

All of this stuff about Abel sounds great.  But why was he taken 15th then?  Needs at other positions for other teams?  Differences in who has a chance to be the best pitcher?

Likely cause the high school season never happened or very little games so there was more of a scouting report on the college players. as they likely had more advanced scouting As played more seasons at a high level. It’s why you saw more college players get drafted in the top 10 then you saw just 2 high school players And had none in the top 7.

he was by most the best high school pitching prospect. Everywhere I read said the Red Sox really wanted to take him at 17 because they lost a draft pick In the cheating scandal and they were willing to extend more to sign him with the loss of the draft pick to go after a more upside player who was likely harder to sign
