EMB Blog: 2023 Regular Season thru Week 9 - NO POLITICS

Featured Replies

Its crazy that it was only the 40th regular season start for Hurts. It feels like he's 28 on year 6.

He has to be trusted to run / pass choose on that 3rd down and he needs to look for the easy throw or run in-bounds and punt.

All the drops, missed FG, etc, meant it should have been a win by 17 but he had a chance to give the D a chance to wrap the game up and he failed badly.

He needs to grow from it and I expect he will.

He couldn’t be worse than Driscoll was. Worst part is we knew he is not a viable backup RT before the season and Lane is a year older. Go sign La’el Collins if Lane is out an extended period.

Wasn't Steen a Left Tackle in college?

Steen LT?  Mailata RT?  If Lane is out a long time.

How many shots down the field have we taken this year? It feels like less than last year. Teams know we like those 30~ yard go routes on the outside so I'm not surprised if they're playing it better. But that is Jalen's money throw. More runs. More shots down the field. Way less of treating Hurts like he's prime Drew Brees. You make him throw and dissect a defense, especially without Lane, and you start to run into stuff like this.

There are a ton of good OT prospects. You can get a pro bowl potential type guy in the second round, so no need to shoehorn it.

How many?   Seems most of those guys go in the first round.

I think we’ll hear a lot of cheap talk in the week ahead that Driscoll wasn’t actually that bad, that they could have helped him more (they could have), and that they are confident in him until Lane returns.  And I think they’ll ride with him.

They had no time outs run the ball and punt

Exactly 💯.   No reason to pass in that situation.  We were ahead and could have made them drive the field with no TO's.  Dumb

Elliott’s  miss was huge cuz I think we run it on 3rd and punt with them having to score a TD.

But, we need to get some guys back next week.

No doubt.  That was a killer.

Every week people **** about Brian Johnson. What play calls were even the problem today? Play calls had very little to do with this loss. Multiple dropped passes, bad turnovers, Elliott missed FG, poor protection up front at times. None of that has to do with the play calling. And if they needed to slide help over to Driscoll, that's a head coach decision.

I get Sirianni is a popular guy in this town, but you can't just put everything on Johnson because you love Sirianni. This is his team, he's responsible for all this stuff.

And Sirianni is the one who decides coming out of the 2 minute warning whether they're running or passing. Sirianni is the one who decides the game plan, which is obviously pass heavy.

Sirianni has made weird decisions all year. Like featuring Gainwell in week 1. Going for it on 4th down in week 1. Not going for 2 vs Minnesota. Not using the timeout at the end of the first half vs Minnesota. Going for the TD at the end vs Washington. All year long he's done dope crap, but because we love Nick, let's blame it all on Johnson. It's unfair.

Maybe this can put to rest all of the fluff off season stuff too. Maybe having OTA's mini camps, a tougher TC and playing a few preseason snaps would have given this team more of an opportunity to learn what BJ was going to do on offense and give Sirianni an opportunity to see how BJ calls games with the starters?

All that rest and light work yet the Eagles players are dropping like fly's.

Wont even be mad

Because he’s told to throw the ball on 3rd down for some godforsaken reason. He’s bad. The line was bad. The turnovers are bad. Drops are bad. Hideous game. B Johnson couldn’t coordinate an outfit let alone an NFL offense.

I agree. A lot of guys on this board were happy when Johnson was hired. I had my doubts. The playcalling is horrible. Sirianni might have to step in.

I thought Hurts was playing a phenomenal game in the first half.  He’s done some great things this year, even though it has been a bit of a struggle.  But he will go into week 7 as one of the absolute lowest rated passers amongst nfl starting QBs this year.

His regression in the 2nd half was nauseating and alarming. Like I was watching 2 different players. He spent that majority of the 2nd half escaping a clean pocket and making awful decisions.

I didn’t see one play where he didn’t get beat

He threw a couple others that were really bad, but didn't end in a turnover.

Those were pretty close to being turnovers. I still think he played a great game that kept us in it, outside of those 2 bad throws and the one pick that I do blame him for. If AJ doesn’t slow down on that route & Elliot makes that FG I think we win

3rd and 9 with a make shift oline and a D that caused 3 turn overs already and you throw

dumb

We're 5-1 and people are acting like we're 1-5 lol

Hurts sucked today. I do not want to hear him talking about flushing a deuce again.

Something has been off with the coaching all season. They've been coaching hesitant almost like they fear the defense rather than the defense should be fearing them. They tighten up in the red zone, on 3rd downs they've not been nearly as aggressive. I really don't get it. Just an air that they don't have confidence in their players. They got away with it for weeks. Even last week on that late drive they played for a field goal and basically conceded a TD. Random stuff like that all season.

Yup. Nick has been weird a lot all season. Putting on my conspiracy theory hat it makes think he’s not a big fan of Desai given the circumstances of Gannon leaving and the weirdly long search for a DC

Could very easily be a lot closer to 1-5

He played RT at Vandy so not a two-left foot Andre.

It’s the third down playcalling, specifically in the red zone that is infuriating to me. It feels like they’re just trying to set up a manageable 4th down instead of getting the yardage needed to convert on 3rd. The QB power runs on third down are maddening. It’s just clunky.

They just lost to the G D Jets

This is the type of loss that will be costly come January. The Niners gave us a gift and we pathetically gave it back.

With our schedule, we couldn’t afford to pee down our legs today.

Watching this team this year, this team is fortunate to have 5 wins and only 1 loss. Against New England, they repeatedly tried to give the game away when they got up. And that New England team has been bad. not sure they make a stop against Washington if the commanders go for two at the end. imo Bucs game they handled their business but still turned the ball over twice. And the rams the defense shined after a slow start but the offense managed 6 points in the second half.

Last two games the eagles have scored 6 points in the second half.

the red zone offense is ranked 27th for a reason  consistently bad play calling and not getting the ball to your best weapons. frankly we were inches away from only scoring 7 points in this game.

The injuries are piling up on you and entering the toughest part of the schedule. I’m sorry i really just don’t think it’s the eagles year this year. There’s a bunch of injuries, turning the ball over 1.5 per game and the defense while hold teams has no turnovers in 3.5 games and is losing their playmakers in the backend

I’d argue out of the 5-1 teams of the niners, lions and eagles that the lions are actually playing the best football right now. Since their loss to the Seahawks they are just handing it to teams. Yet to win by less than 14 since that Seahawks loss.

i’m guessing you see a better effort from the Eagles next week. But the Dolphins are more than capable with the amount of injuries have on that back end putting up 35+ points. I don’t know with lane Johnson being hurt and the offense’s ineffectiveness in the red zone, and in the second half lately they haven’t been able to generate much offense if they’ll be able to match that.

5-2 Tua ain’t Zach Wilson he is gonna cook

Depending on the pool each year and how the board breaks, you can get OT pro bowl potential even after that.  But there are 2 other variables….risk to realize that potential and the runway to realize it.

Readiness to contribute as a rookie is what slaps a round 1 price tag on an OL.

And not to chicken little the Lane situation, but that’s what we need.  The OL falls apart without him and it happens every year.
