Desai defense despite the injuries has been much better in the 2nd half.  It the 1st half, the seem to play loose coverage and prevent.  Need to bring the CBs up closer to stop those easy slants.  Bring the 2nd half defense to the first half.  And, yeah, Howie pull the trigger on Chinn or Baker.  Stop screwing around.

Brian Johnson, on the other hand, has just been bad and inconsistent.  That designed run on anything more than 5 yds is just not working.  He did do some good things with the dual rbs and ran more screens today.  I think we need to get more run centric until Lane can get back.  Granted they aren't the same running team with Driscoll.

I'll take Chinn & Simmons. Simmons has the experience and shouldn't be anywhere near as costly as Baker who wants a new mega deal. Chinn can be a coverage player at LB and nickel and 3rd safety.
Brian Johnson is very disappointing. This offense seriously misses Shane which I admit I didn't think losing him would hurt us the way it has. Jalen is not the same and I believe it's because Shane isn't here. He called a better game which in turn helped Jalen be a better QB.

I'm a bit worried where DeVonta Smith's head is right now. Outside of his drops, his body language the past 2 weeks has been noticeably off. On the long pass to AJ Brown down the left sideline, he was down there blocking which was great. Huge play for the Eagles which usually everyone on the team is amped up about. DeVonta didn't engage with AJ after the play, instead it looked like he turned and sulked back towards the huddle.

AJ Brown is clearly the top dog. Is DeVonta OK with that or does he expect/want to be the top dog? HIs drop over the middle was terrible. Worst play he's had as an Eagle. On the other hand, when's the last time we saw the Eagles draw a play up like that for him? He's constantly given WR screens or short passes. The Eagles are misusing him in the worst way.

I've seen that too. I wonder that is the symptom of the O being a bit feast or famine overall. Hurts can get a little locked in on a player and forget others are out there

The NFL is a funny thing.  I remember Driscoll, as a rookie, playing against Bosa and really holding his own.  I think it was Bosa, but it was definitely some pro-bowl edge.  It felt like he got dinged every time he had extended snaps, but he seemed to play quite well, especially in pass protection, whenever he got snaps...which was pretty often...because, you know, Lane Johnson and injuries.

It feels like he has gotten worse every year.

Rotating between tackle and guard could have played a role in that. Similar to Maddox having to play every position in the secondary his rookie year. Lane has played nothing but right tackle since day 1. Kelce has played nothing but center, Dickerson nothing but LG. That has to mean something

Wow...was really shocked, expected them to be 6-0 and then at worst 4-4 over their tough stretch putting them at about 10-4 with 3 easier games at the end of the year.  Now....I'm worried that the Dolphins are going to put up 100 on them!  Now watch, we end up beating the Dolphins 30-10 going what the F!?!?!

This board sees every loss as a disaster and evidence that one player or another has regressed, given up, got paid or a little bit of all three.

Yesterday looked like a team that thought it could beat Zach Wilson's Jets just by turning up, all aspects of the offense were a little bit slack and sloppy, there were bad throws, drops, sloppy routes and poor ball security all over the place, Smith played his worst game since he was drafted, Hurt's played his worst half since '21 and the constant empty backfield slow developing plays with a back up tackle in was just mindblowing,  in fact if you showed the run / pass ratio but not anything else to any football fan, how many would guess they were looking at a game we led until the two minute warning in the 4th?

Trying to complete 3rd and long rather than a short run and then deep punt to trust the defense that was money and had got to Wilson all game was also dumb as all hell.

They need to re focus, and for god sake get some better intermediate passing plays than, have a receiver go and find a soft spot in the zone and stand absolutely still, it's absurd.

For me, personally, I saw all the issues that have been there from game 1, but chose to be patient because of the amount of talent on the roster.

Most of these problems seem like coaching to me, so I figured they would work through it.

Now, after 6 games, it’s starting to seem like this is just who the 2023 Eagles are.

It was always going to be tough coming off of a SB loss.

And now, with more key injuries and a tougher schedule, it’s not going to get any easier.

For yesterday, I said it on Friday when Sirriani practically messaged that he was resting Slay and Carter (implied that they were just 1 week injuries lol), that the entire organization seemed to be taking an "It’s just the Jets” approach.

Record-wise, they’re obviously still in good position, but this team is not as good as a lot of the teams they are about to play.

They certainly have the talent, but they aren’t nearly the team that we thought they could be so far this year.

Woke up just as pissed as I was when I fell asleep. Let’s go Phils! Need to wash this awful Birds loss away.

At least we’re seeing a lot of ownership of that loss.

Maybe this will be a good reality check for some of the players and coaches

Be interesting to see how they respond.

BJ is running out of time though. Unless he can figure it out i can't see him being in the job next season

I'm fine with being cautious with injuries, to a point.  It's frustrating, but if the team wants to keep playing until Feb, then you're playing the long game at this point in the season.  Let's see with Lane as he will try and play on on one leg if he can.

Updates from Siri today will be interesting

I suspect there will be a lot of emotional fights on the blog this week.  Everyone is somewhat justified in their opinion.  You think the Eagles were a revelation last year en route to the SB appearance, are 5-1 this year, and will figure it out after 1 no-show loss?  That's a fair opinion.  You think the Eagles have looked shaky, at best, all year and that culminated in a terrible loss to the Jets...and now you're worried that this is just a different, inferior team to 2022?  That's a fair opinion too.

The bottom line is they ARE 5-1.  It took the stacking of multiple crazy events to actually generate a loss for them.  They have defeated teams just by showing up.  The reality is also that Hurts has not been the same player he was last year.  Every win has featured ugly warts and wincing moments.  The depth chart has multiple gaping holes.  When every game ends in a tense 4th quarter toss up, you are going to ring up losses eventually and won't string together wins against playoff teams.

So which is it?  To use the cliche seriously, the Dolphins are the real test.  If they lay an egg and get worked over...it doesn't mean the season is over.  But we'll know what kind of ride we are in for this year.  It will be a struggle and it will be fair to say they have regressed.  If they Buffalo the Dolphins, then everything will be back on track and everyone will feel wonderful.

Can't see us beating miami tbh. Even if slay and carter etc are back. We'll really be have to be on it to get the W, and we just haven't played like that so far.

AJ is a diva after all…

but it speaks to weak game planning and coaching to me

Not sure why this continues to be an issue. They have 3 guys who flourish in that area. The only one who gets volume catches is AJ Brown. They insist on running multiple TE screens per game and short routes for DeVonta. Why they continue to do this is beyond me. They finally get a ball over the middle to DeVonta and he drops it. Their passing attack has no rhyme or reason.

I think they lose to the dolphins pretty convincingly due to how banged up they are.

I think we beat the bills if we are any good.  Bills should be beatable. Should force Allen in to mistakes.  He will also miss some throws on his own.

If we lose both then I'll be concerned.

We know Siri will reveal as little about the injuries as possible, so I doubt we learn much.

I think we know as much about Lane's injury right now as we will until 60 minutes before he suits back up.  We know it's not his knee.  We know it's not an achilles.  We essentially know it's a high ankle sprain.

He will return this year.  And he will miss time.  The only question is how much time he'll miss and how much pain we'll endure in the interim.  We should all know this drill with Lane by now.  The informative thing will be if he goes on IR, as that tells you if he'll miss under 4 weeks.

They have a brilliant coach who will be ready

the key is getting multiple hits on tua but without much blitzing

I get the pass heavy choice yesterday. The Jets were fielding a PS secondary. My problem is what routes for which players in certain  scenarios. Fact of the matter is the missed FG and the choices on the last series lost them that game. They had 4 turnovers and were still in a position to win on the road. The defense played great and the offense choked. Simple as that. How you want to divide the fault for the O choking is subjective.

Also said this during the game. The Eagles have a QB who continually leaves the pocket and rolls to his right. Why does it seem like none of his targets know how to run a scramble drill? In other games I watch it always looks like players are bailing their QB out. Never see an Eagles player go out of their way to get open for Hurts when he's being chased.

Overall as a group they can do better, but there are guys getting open when he scrambles, he just isn't seeing them.

AJ was open a lot yesterday, but yeah, game planning needs to be better so that teams don't just assume it's going to AJ.

Yep.  For Lane, its' an IR or not IR thing for me. And where Carter and Slay are on the list.

As for coaching, will be interesting to see the post bye week, if anything happens.  I can't see them doing anything now as Johnson needs experience, and you don't get that being demoted

I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that it seems like the only way this team loses is if 5-6 fluky, strange things or sequences where they shoot themselves in the foot go against them. Because you can tell yourself that those things won’t happen all the time, but they have been this season consistently which is a detriment that is becoming their identity. They escaped against Washington.

The Eagles will be as evasive as possible with today's injury report.  Just wanted to compile a list of injuries, prognosis, and replacement plans...in order of importance.

1. Lane.
Dx: high ankle sprain.  Range: 0-6 weeks, possible IR.
Replacement: I think they ride or die with Driscoll.

2. Slay.
Dx: "knee."  Range: 0-2 weeks.
Replacement: Probably back next week, Jobe if he's not.

3. Carter.
Dx: Ankle sprain.  Range: 0-2 weeks.
Replacement: all the other DT's, probably back next week anyway.

4.  Blankenship.
Dx: Rib contusions.  Range: 0-2 weeks, probably missing at least 1 game.
Replacement: ?????????  We only have one healthy safety on the roster and that guy sucks.

5. Roby.
Dx: "Shoulder injury"  Range: anything really.  Seems like 0-2 weeks as a guess.
Replacement: Jobe with Bradberry in the slot vs. Goodrich.

6. Ricks.
Dx: "knee"  Range: also anything.  Could be anything from an ACL to playing next week.
Replacement: well, he is a replacement.  For his spot on the depth chart, it's Garner vs. Ringo.

IR guys:

1. Jurgens.  Perhaps reasonable hope he returns in 3 weeks at the conclusion of his IR window.
2. Watkins.  I think he wasn't quite ready to go and was IR'd out of a need for roster spots.  I bet he returns right away at the end of his window.
3. Evans.  No idea.  Probably the same situation as Watkins.
4. Maddox.  Done for the year.

If we assume everyone listed above besides Slay/Carter misses at least 1 game...

The Eagles dressed 8 DBs last week (Bradberry, Jobe, Roby, Goodrich, Blankenship, Edmunds, Garner, Ringo).  The current roster is unlikely to have that many DBs available to dress next week.  And they may only have 1 safety available to dress.

Any missing players or information?

Ringo played 0 snaps on defense yesterday.  That's on a day when 2nd year player and practice squad call up Mekhi Garner played 35% of the defensive snaps.  Safe to say they don't trust him yet.

I hate to be that guy but 10 wins could happen with this schedule. That was not the one  to drop.

Dolphins are a bad bad matchup
