The Goedert INT looks worse and more like it's on Hurts.  He has to get it out sooner with his feet set.  He waits too long which allows Williams to make a play.  He needs to hit his back foot and release the ball.  If he does, Goedert has much more than a first down.

You're supposed to wait on a screen, so the DL come towards Hurts and it gives the OL/TE more space.

Other than Goedert, blame the 3 OL...none of whom blocked JJ!

Driscoll isn’t very good. But anybody going from Lane Johnson to a back up there is going to be a significant drop off. The problem with this play is that Driscoll gets beat. But you didn’t give him any help on this play which is a mistake. You’re running a slow developing play that needs time for your wide receiver to get down the field. This was supposed to be somewhat deep route. Instead of having your running back chip or helping Driscoll, we just assume he’s gonna be able to do what lane Johnson naturally does. That’s not the case. If gainwell Chips (I don’t know if they ask him to and he missed it which on this play he just runs by him and could’ve delivered a chip but didn’t) on that this play it actually gives just enough time for it to work and you’re likely down the field in field-goal position already.  As a coach you cannot assume that Driscoll is just gonna be competent because of loyalty or stoutland being stoutland. He’s not Fing Lane.

Would we consider Ghost an injury prone player?  He doesn't seem to play very long before getting hurt.  Maybe he needs to modify his semi-reckless style of play if he wants to be available more.

He took a vicious shot yesterday.  Nothing wreckless from him on that, other than not having his head on a swivel... but in today's NFL... that's not supposed to happen anymore.

That reminds me... we keep talking about the missed opportunities and self-inflicted wounds the Eagles had that cost them points or possessions.  That personal foul call on Lazard stole great field position from the Jets... even without that block, the Jets would have had a first down in the red zone.  So, while we did shoot ourselves in the foot... so did the Jets, at least on that occasion.

I’m over the loss. S*** happens.

Any word on Lane?

I blame the black pants.   That's not an Eagles' color.  :nonono:

Why are Hurts' INT up and passer rating, etc. down?

Yes the last INT in the 4th quarter was terrible. But the shaky offense is a team effort. A lot of Hurts' "regression" is team-based.

Hurts has been mediocre at best for the totality of the season. He was 16th in Total QBR last week and will fall after yesterday's stinker.

For those who care about the series that begins tonight I have recorded the following predictions.  If you want to add yours, please do.  Be sure to tag it with @mattwill

Like I’ve said, in the past, there’s problems with his team not just Jalen hurts. however, he does have a problem. He’s not playing consistently at the level he was last year. He’s not reading the field as well. He’s making more poor decisions than last year. And he’s making more turnovers even without the help of his teammates.

I said this last year people got upset when I said Patrick Mahomes should be the MVP. It’s not that Patrick Mahomes is great. We know that. It is that Patrick Mahomes year after year manages to be the best quarterback in the league. I don’t think people comprehend how hard it is with all the changes in the NFL from year to year to be great year in and year at that position. I think we hear it but our expectations are he did it last year so naturally he’ll do it again. It is the hardest position in the sport for a reason. Honest question over the last three years, what quarterback consistently has played close to an MVP level year in a year out? It’s not many

I'm a bit worried where DeVonta Smith's head is right now. Outside of his drops, his body language the past 2 weeks has been noticeably off. On the long pass to AJ Brown down the left sideline, he was down there blocking which was great. Huge play for the Eagles which usually everyone on the team is amped up about. DeVonta didn't engage with AJ after the play, instead it looked like he turned and sulked back towards the huddle.

AJ Brown is clearly the top dog. Is DeVonta OK with that or does he expect/want to be the top dog? HIs drop over the middle was terrible. Worst play he's had as an Eagle. On the other hand, when's the last time we saw the Eagles draw a play up like that for him? He's constantly given WR screens or short passes. The Eagles are misusing him in the worst way.

Maybe seeing Brown make a fuss and then get force fed is bothering him. Doubt it but there's that small chance

I'm still blown away by the amount of injuries this team is going through. Even the announcers made a joke about it yesterday as they kept going down to the sidelines for injury updates. I also think the NFL is going to have to give serious consideration to natural grass being required.

Sanchez was rooting for Jets

91 looked like he should have been flagged in the first clip

Its obvious Hurts has regressed

the question is, has it been adjusting to a new OC? Ot have DCs figured him out?

has he bulled up too much or is he just trying to play hero ball instead of executing the offense?

holding the ball and bailing on clean pockets is poor qb play

I'm not saying it's the reason but he does have a new QB coach and new OC

I really blame Nick for hiring Johnson because he's close with Hurts. Yeah, that's important, but even more so would be someone who puts him in the best position to succeed. His talent evaluation is horrible considering he worked with him all last year and thought he'd do a good job. I don't know who else was out there, but he isn't the guy. He's not comfortable out there and screw the Colts for f'ing up our offense after a SB yet again.

I was totally fine with a pass on 3rd down because of the context of the situation. Even a sack there accomplishes essentially the same thing as a run. It kills the clock and you punt it away. But one first down and the game is over, period. You have to at least take the chance of seeing if you can pick up the first down. Hurts has to know better. At the very least you drop back, scan the field, and if no one's open you just go to the ground and let the clock run.

Siri plays to win the game. He's not Shannahan or McVay who play not to lose.

We love that about him.

But it didn't work on our favor last night.

The players let the coaches down yesterday. Sometimes it's the other way around.

Elliott missed FG, Smith two dropped passes, Gainwell dropped pass, Goedert and Swift fumbles, Hurts INT. Game should've been over by halftime, at the very least mid 3rd quarter.

People keep harping on the Jets 29th ranked run defense, but it wasn't working yesterday. And I'm not sure that is indicative of their run defense, anyway. It's the 6th game of the season, it's a small sample. I bet it improves throughout the year, their front is too good not to. Hell, how many runs did the Eagles lose yardage on yesterday? They had their top two CBs missing, Hurts is (usually) good not making bad decisions. They trusted him there to make the right play, he didn't. This city's obsession with running the ball that goes back to the Buddy Ryan days has always baffled me.

I don’t love what Brian Johnson has done this year particularly in the red zone. However, I also know it’s his first year being an OC and you’re asking him to replace a guy who went to the Super Bowl and called maybe his best game of the year in the Super Bowl. The odds were anybody that replaced steichen wasn’t going to be as good or good enough. they’re not gonna fire Brian Johnson after this year unless it really goes off the rails. the curious question is going to be in 2024, if the offense still has some of the same issues we’ve seen then it’s going to be an issue and likely he gets replaced.

Yup.

You Play to Win the Game. Hurts just didn't make the right read at the end.

Even though it's not as serious as they feared, I still think the plan will be to keep Lane out until after the bye. At least in a perfect world that's what they would probably want. If Driscoll is a disaster against Miami and Washington, maybe they try to rush Lane back for the Dallas game.
