The defense played well yesterday, but even so it showed how bad the linebackers are in coverage. There were two drives yesterday where the Jets got Fgs out of the drive because our linebackers can’t cover anybody. I’m not saying they have to be great in coverage, but they are so bad that the Jets specifically just targeted them on those 2 drives and got into field-goal range cause of it. If you just had competent linebackers, there’s a chance the jets don’t even have 12 points in that game at the time of that interception. That’s how bad Cunningham and Morrow were in coverage. The fact the Jets didn’t exploit it more is questionable on their part.

Won’t be surprised if Howie takes another QB high in the next draft.

This is a take. I was gonna put out a take, saying as good as the Eagles defense was yesterday and desai did a good job considering what he had at his disposal. that it was a game where Jonathan Gannon probably holds the Jets to less 10 points. that was a Jonathan Gannon special against a bad quarterback he tends to thrive

The very clear biggest needs for the eagles next draft are a starting RT, and a DE.

Barnett played only 13 snaps and somehow I kept noticing out there and felt like he played way too much. He is useless. Graham is still good but getting old and theres nothing else but Sweat.

CB needs to be addressed, but the vets are hanging on and the young guys are gonna be just fine. Nothing needs to be rushed, or forced there. Those two spots in the trenches need the most immediate help.

Driscoll is unplayable at tackle. Time to give Steen reps at Right Tackle. Already has been on right side of line at Guard and has experience in college. He needs to be versatile and next man up anyway.

You're supposed to wait on a screen, so the DL come towards Hurts and it gives the OL/TE more space.

Other than Goedert, blame the 3 OL...none of whom blocked JJ!

The OL had no shot to block Williams.  He read the play and no one had a shot at him from the snap.  So it may be a problem where they need to do more to disguise the play but the OL just had not chance at him. Goedert could have secured the catch better and that is on him.  He, however, would not have that worry if Hurts got the ball out as he hit his back foot.  Goedert was ready for the ball before Hurts began his throwing motion.  Hurts failed to execute the play well.  He was part of the problem.

I saw Lane get up and walk off the field and knowing Lane over the years I said if he is walking, he is playing. He went directly in to the blue tent and from there he limped gingerly to the locker room. And I thought, thats not good. But then he was ruled as questionable. And I said, the way the eagles offense is dominating this game (still 1st half) they may not need him. But I bet if its still close he will play in the 2nd half.

Then he was ruled out.

Now, its not that serious.

Im disappointed the team didnt let him play. He could have been the difference in that game.

I've actually been encouraged by he CB depth the last few weeks -- Jobe and Ricks in particular.

I cringe every time I see Barnett on the field. Just give those snaps to Nolan already.

DE is the biggest need by far on this team for the 2024 draft.

I find it hard to believe that Steen would be worse at RT than Driscoll. But in Stout I trust.

Unexpected good news for today.

I think cornerback have to be up there. Bradnerry is in his 30s and slay in his mid 30s next year. And Maddox can’t stay healthy. The guys behind them are fine as back ups. I can’t make a definitive statement saying that those young guys are going to be fine. At this point I think corner is right there with defensive end and right tackle.

I know it was the Jets O-line, but Jordan Davis was on the field a lot yesterday and was a monster. With Reddick healthy, Carter coming back...the D-Line is going to be a problem for the Dolphins.

Yup.  Even the first DeVonta Smith drop is a poor throw, very similar to the throw to AJ Brown on the last drive.  A simple throw that came out way too high.  Gotta hit those WRs in the numbers on short throws to give them a chance for extra yards.

Thought this was interesting. It does feel we're getting more dinking and dunking on Sundays.

You're not talking about the Smith dropped where he was hit right in the hands but jumped for no reason are you? There were multiple drops I lost track.

Agree.

Im absolutely shocked that Smith seems like he needs to get stronger in the NFL because he is one of the defensive players Ive identified as a violent player that is just so physical. I know hes small for DE but I thought he would have more impact plays. Maybe he just hasnt played enough to make plays. But he does seem a little too raw yet and needs NFL strength.

Jobe and Ricks- I doubt that they become our next starting CB tandem. I think the team will make a move at some point to bring in someone proven. But I do think they look like the can develop in to a capable starting CB tandem. Im just fine with those guys.

I paid attention to see if Bradberry was going to follow Wilson in that game. And a lot of the time he did. I saw him on both sides of the field, and in the slot. BUT there were also times he wasnt on Wilson and Jobe was. Jobe had no issue. Thats a tough matchup. I compare Wilson to a McLaurin type that I expect our CBs to have a tough time with. And they both did well on him.

Id draft a nickel in the mid rounds before I draft an outside starter only because RT and DE are bigger needs.

Jimmy Schwartz looking good

Jobe, by the numbers, has been fine.

Jobe as outside CB3, means we don't have to sign more outside CBs for 2024 as Slay/Bradberry are probably back.

Slot CB? Can easily make that a priority.

I think the plan at Nickel is the kid they picked up from the Colts. He is suspended for the year. I would be surprised if Avonte Maddox is back next year. Although if he is back, I also wouldn’t be surprised if they start playing him more at safety. I forget the podcast I was listening to, but they talked about. It’s not just a loss for him at nickel. They were actually using him at times to play safety and change it up with the coverages.

In the draft, if the best available player is a corner that has versatility but mainly outside I am going to take the corner. This team is not in a position to be like we don’t need outside corner help with both are starting cbs  in their 30s and our back up haven’t proven that they could be long-term starters. And frankly they probably aren’t.

Let me know what it looks like after this week if slay is out. Basing off zack Wilson and an inept jets offense is not the best way to make statements long term future about him. Before we say vs. rams, the cardinals held the rams to 6 points in the first half of their game. Then they basically imploded on offense with turnovers that led to the rams outburst.

People are happy with Jobe now?

hmmm

If we're down the following players then i'd say help was required. Secondary pretty much decimated.

Slay
Brown
Reed
Ricks
Roby
Evans

Leaves bradberry, Jobe, goodrich and ringo with Edmunds and no one at safety. 4 of those are garbage and the other is past his best.

Now imagine them against tyreek and waddle etc.

Looks like we better run the ball.
