Let me know what it looks like after this week if slay is out. Basing off zack Wilson and an inept jets offense is not the best way to make statements long term future about him. Before we say hit rams, the cardinals held the rams to 6 points in the first half of their game. Then they basically imploded on offense with turnovers.

Jobe has played a lot since week 2. It's a lot of snaps.

I don't think Jobe is good. I don't think he's a starter on a SB team. I do think we should be thrilled that he's a startable CB4. This is not a Driscoll situation.

People are happy with Jobe now?

hmmm

Ive been happy with him all year. As his sample size gets bigger, the numbers are beginning to support him passing the eye test as well.

Lane injury not being serious has put space between myself and the ledge. Still need to make a move for a safety for me to feel better.

Biggest concern is and remains Brian Johnson and the coaching staff in general.

That’s fine. I think he’s fine as a back up. I think that’s what he probably is for his NFL career. However, if we’re looking at this team you’re gonna depend on an injury, prone slot corner,  an over 30 corner and a 33/34-year-old corner going into next year? If there is a corner available in the first round that they deem is the best available player or one they see can be a good starter on a Super Bowl team i don’t think they should ignore it. If all things were equal then I’m guessing they go DE or RT. But if the corner is Christian Gonzalez like and is their best available player take him. It solves 1 of 3 issues you have long term.

Jobe, by the numbers, has been fine.

Jobe as outside CB3, means we don't have to sign more outside CBs for 2024 as Slay/Bradberry are probably back.

Slot CB? Can easily make that a priority.

I thought he played pretty well... got a little grabby but he's been in good position and just needs to clean that up a bit and he's serviceable. I think as he gains more experience and confidence the penalties will drop.

Driscoll is unplayable at tackle. Time to give Steen reps at Right Tackle. Already has been on right side of line at Guard and has experience in college. He needs to be versatile and next man up anyway.

I find it hard to believe that Steen would be worse at RT than Driscoll. But in Stout I trust.

Problem is the Eagles stick with guys that have been there longer.

Steen may very well be better than Driscoll but the Eagles will play Driscoll because he's been there longer and been a solid tackle filling in, except yesterday he looked bad.

Yup just cleanup the penalties.

I'm really not understanding the Josh Jobe hate. Guy is a 2nd year player who we got as an UDFA, and he is showing he belongs in the NFL. Is he a long-term starter? Who knows, and probably not. But as a 3rd outside CB, with Ricks as the 4th guy, that is very encouraging. And he is still developing.

I seriously don't get it -- he's been good. Most teams would kill to have a backup CB playing this well. I don't stress when he has to play. Now Mario Goodrich...that's another story.

Hey I called it on Friday that this uniform combo meant Jets were winning. I don't know why anyone is surprised.

I think cornerback have to be up there. Bradnerry is in his 30s and slay in his mid 30s next year. And Maddox can’t stay healthy. The guys behind them are fine as back ups. I can’t make a definitive statement saying that those young guys are going to be fine. At this point I think corner is right there with defensive end and right tackle.

True. Need higher end CBs here, but Slay is 32 and Bradberry just turned 30 a couple months ago. They do have a young stable where maybe 1 could be an eventual starter. I'd draft one pretty high, but probably not til 2025, til we see what we got. It's always about the lines with the Eagles with the draft and their priorities. DE and Right Tackle need to be addressed. Fast! No depth there today. If Driscoll or Barnett were any good then things might be different.

The very clear biggest needs for the eagles next draft are a starting RT, and a DE.

Barnett played only 13 snaps and somehow I kept noticing out there and felt like he played way too much. He is useless. Graham is still good but getting old and theres nothing else but Sweat.

CB needs to be addressed, but the vets are hanging on and the young guys are gonna be just fine. Nothing needs to be rushed, or forced there. Those two spots in the trenches need the most immediate help.

Context matters. Barnett was playing on Run downs.  Those are not the kind of snaps where a DE is going to make a splash play.

I don’t hate jobe. However, I don’t think anybody should be making a definitive statement that corner isn’t a need for this team going forward. You have two corners in their 30s starting.  Ricks and jobe haven’t show me enough to say yes they could be competent starters long-term that corner isn’t a need long term on this team. It’s as foolish as giving up on Nolan smith after 6 games his rookie year

Johnson without a doubt is the weakest link on this team.

Howie's got a little more than 2 weeks to address safety, I have faith that he'll get something done by the 31st

OK, that I agree with. If you're asking me to rank the needs, I'd put DE ahead of CB because (i) Graham likely retires and (ii) Barnett is hot garbage and won't be back. But if there is a good CB there in round 1 and no DE, then sure. I'd say tie goes to DE. I think we can squeeze another year out of Slay and Bradberry, as opposed to Barnett and Graham.

Every player should be all-pro caliber or they suck.

Seriously though, many forget the years of Bradley Fletcher, Cary Williams, and Jalen Mills. It's not like Jobe is out there biting double moves and getting burnt in coverage. Most completions against him are very tight coverage. The WRs get paid too.

Other than the bomb against the Vikings, I don't remember him getting beat deep. He's too handsy, and he will give up the underneath stuff but then make the stop. I guess the main complaint is he won't take the ball away, but he's a competent corner. Can't ask a ton more of an UDFA getting his first real playing time.

Not really true. Vinny Curry always made splash plays on run downs. Also, some people who take silly pills have always said Barnett is good against the run and sets the edge well. Thats never been true, but in some peoples eyes thats been his one redeeming quality. In reality he does nothing well and doesnt make any splash plays in any facet of the game. I also noticed him specifically in a pass rush situation, not a run down, in which he tried his pattented NFL's worse spin move and got planted on his behind. He just sucks through and through.

No one said it isnt a need. I said DE and RT are the clear biggest needs.

I’d take a corner in 2024 if the board drops a corner i find viable and best available in that spot. I don’t trust two 30+ corners to stay healthy for two consecutive years. If jobe and ticks show more signs then just against a bad jets offense and a bleh rams offense I’d be more on the side of don’t. These games against dolphins and what we have coming up will show a lot if they have to play.

Right tackle needs to be addressed but based on having stoutland i don’t think it’s a requirement to take one in the first round. he might identify someone in the 2-3rd he really likes and do it then. DE again would be if the board falls that way like corner. I’m guessing they’d prioritize DE over corner if they were equal. Granted wouldn’t be shocked if they spent in FA at that position.

I think defensive end might be a position they attack in FA with the options potentially available. If you look at the potential market and who could be available, I think it’s a position where they could get a good defensive end.

Today’s discussions about the details have been enlightening.  Good quality thinking.  But for me the biggest frustration I have with yesterday isn’t at the individual or granular level.  It is the missed opportunity to put the 49ers one game behind.  Perhaps it means more to me because of where I live, but sheet it would be nice to have put them behind us rather than tied.

listening to KNBR this morning it was interesting to hear Greg Pappa talk about Purdy’s poor performance.  It was a breath of realistic fresh air rather than smoke blowing up everyone’s skirts.

Because some don't think a CB is any good unless their Deion Sanders or Darelle Revis.

It's hard to tell how good Jobe will be with such a small sample size.  I feel he's done well for himself but he has to stop with the penalties.
