I suggested Julio Jones about a month ago.  My thinking at that time was move DeVonta Smith to the slot to upgrade Watkins, and let Julio work outside against single coverage.  He's not going to be getting 10-12 targets per game -- you just want a professional who's going to be ready when the targets do come his way.  A bit like Torrey Smith.

Fun fact, Julio Jones is only younger than Torrey Smith by 13 days

Just ban defense then. How many ways to tackle someone can you remove from the game?

Also injured and 34 years old.

Still low risk. Doubt he got much money

You all say I’m speed obsessed, but our offense is getting slower and slower.  Same shift happened after 2017 Super Bowl.  Offense got slower and slower, throwing windows tightened up, qb had to start playing hero ball into coverage, turnovers, the rest is history.

Hurts has been forcing it into all kinds of tight coverage with similar results.

I think the bigger reason things slowed down after 2017 as the offense transitioned into 2018/2019 was more use of 12 personnel when Goedert was added. That was the reason why things got clogged up. They don’t use nearly as much of that personnel package as Doug and co. did. AJ and DeVonta are much quicker than any receivers they had in those years after 2017 outside of DeSean.

Definitely making it harder and harder to tackle someone

That particular technique is almost the same as a horse collar tackle, though.

Defense is read and react. I don't know how they expect defenders to continually think about how they are tackling a player. At some point, you just have to realize that injuries are part of the game. Sorry, guys are going to get hurt. If they were that concerned about injuries, they would tell New York to pull up that carpet right now and put natural grass in.

What is a 'hip drop' tackle?

The Eagles were set to sign TO instead, but after getting hit by the car the Eagles decided to go with the healthier Julio.

How do you tackle someone from behind then? Dive at his feet? Collar out, waist out. Not much else to do other than dive and just to knock their feet out.

Will be trickier to define objectively. The key to the horse collar was the manner in where the ball carrier was grabbed, which is usually fairly straightforward to assess objectively. But in a hip-drop tackle, you have to define how the defender lowers their body weight to arrest the ball carrier's movement. Saything that the defender intended to drop their weight at or near the legs of the ball carrier is going to be very subjective, especially in cases where the defender is outweighed by the ball carrier.

They probably did.  But he needs to just say a simple "no" instead of BS-ing it.

They obviously did, lol

Don't toy with my emotions like that. If I hear Kashmir play, I may just ruin my underwear. #200decibels

Eagles probably regret rushing him. Tough Rams matchup, then crappy playing surface. Not an ideal ramp up.

I can well imagine he was itching to play also.  Sometimes, injuries just happen

Defender grabs the waist of the offensive player, but then drops their own hips (lifting their feet off the ground and swinging their own legs around) to use their own body weight against the ball carrier. Basically you turn yourself into a big boat anchor to slow the ball carrier down. Where the danger comes in is when the defender swings their legs around into the back of the legs of the offensive players, basically resulting in all their weight comes crashing down on back of the knees of the ball carrier.

Go run around out there kid.  You won't get the ball, but make it look good for SNF

Silver linings, at his current pace this season that would take Quez Watkins 43 games

Even before his abysmal season this year, Quez has 48 playoff yards in his career (4 games), Julio had 79 in one game last year.

Quez Last 20 Games:

54 Targets 34 catches, 362 yards 3 TD

Julio Last 12 Games:

61 Targets 37 Catches, 435 Yards 3 TD

He’s old sure, but he still out performs Quez in 8 less games.

New rules for 2024:

  • Can't push a player forward on offense
  • Can't tackle a player from behind
  • Can't ever hit a QB for any reason even with the ball, seriously just let him score especially Pat Mahomes
  • Can't touch a WR ever, but you can use pool noodles to bat the ball down
  • Defensive line can't rush the passer, just stand there making a wall and jump up and down to distract the QB with silly dances that will be posted on TikTok

I'll bet dollars to donuts that Julio is NOT in Miami on Sunday Night.

So... how is a player supposed to tackle a player that is in front of him?   Just ask politely?
