So... how is a player supposed to tackle a player that is in front of him?   Just ask politely?

Olympic sport in 2028. It all makes sense now. Train NFL players to be flag football players so we can use professionals in the Olympics. You thought the 92 Dream Team was something. Wait until Caleb Williams paints his nails the colors of the flag and dominates the world for a gold medal!

New rules for 2024:

  • Can't push a player forward on offense
  • Can't tackle a player from behind
  • Can't ever hit a QB for any reason even with the ball, seriously just let him score especially Pat Mahomes
  • Can't touch a WR ever, but you can use pool noodles to bat the ball down
  • Defensive line can't rush the passer, just stand there making a wall and jump up and down to distract the QB with silly dances that will be posted on TikTok

Another one is

  • Allow Trent Williams one free head slap to an opponent per game without being punished

That's why I said it's going to be hard to objective classify what is or isn't a hip-drop tackle. The one on Geno Smith wasn't even a typical hip-drop tackle, imo. The defender just basically lunged at Smith and some of his weight happened to come down on the back of Smith's legs, but there was no pulling back and downward like there normally is, and he barely even grabbed on.

Now there might be more clear-cut cases where it's obvious the defender was trying to drop their weight on the back of the legs of the ball carrier like this. Here it's even worse because the defender has the QB in his grasp and then drops his hips at the end to get the QB to the ground.

For the reasons I already mentioned, I think this would be a bad rule, but when I played, as a CB, this was one of the only reliable ways I could get someone like a TE or FB to the ground. We didn't call it a hip-drop tackle back then, we just called it a tackle.

I

I think flag football is the only answer.   Gotta take BOTH flags off though, not just one.

At disadvantage of at least swapping Stott and Bohm? He hasn't been much better, but they need to do something, and I get leaving Nick where he is as long as he is drilling them out. Harper may not get a good pitch all night.

If the NFL wants a better textbook example to use, this tackle on Pollard is way more instructive than the hit on Smith.

It's like a game of guess who.  Could Blankenship go on IR?  Or Slay?

Or the league can just accept that the sport will have injuries and they're paid millions to play in it

RB vs. QB.   Which one actually matters in the NFL today?

Blankenship might be the one... depends on the severity of the (multiple) rib(s) injury.  If there's a break, I think it has to be a 4 week, minimum, recovery.

Could you imagine Henry carrying people 50 yards because they can't tackle like this lol. It would look like those clips of Mailata playing rugby with puny earthlings. Make Running Backs Great Again.

X-rays were negative

The original tweet from Rapoport stated the hip-drop tackle is resulting in an injury rate 25X that of other tackles.  If you were a player, I don't think you'd want the league to be accepting of that.

Very few logical thinkers around here. A lot just b*ing and moaning about something that doesn’t affect them in any way.

Players don't want to be injured at all and it's completely understandable but they're paid handsomely to play in a contact sport knowing injuries are very likely

Idk why they don’t just wait til after the SB so all 32 teams have similar opportunities for their eventual vacancies.

Why not just wait until after the Super Bowl?  It might slow teams down in pulling the plug on HCs a little bit.  And then you don't have the issue with tampering with coordinators from Super Bowl participants.

But, it doesn't matter... it literally says "In-Person"... so now its just a 6 hour Zoom meeting.

That doesn’t mean you can help protect them. Just because they get money doesn’t mean they’re immune to empathy.

That's all true, but (like any other workplace) the employer has an ethical and legal obligation to take steps to reduce risk.
