Blankenship slightly outproduced Simmons last year statistically and also received a slightly higher grade than Simmons from PFF. CJGJ may not be a prototypical safety, but he is a playmaker that finds the ball, makes big hits, and helps set the tone on defense and motivate teammates. Last year we brought in Byard and he was about the equivalent of Simmons. He was an upgrade over Edmunds, but it just didn't seem to make the defense come together. In fact, the opposite happened as each week passed. I’m not getting in to an argument with you about Simmons vs Blankenship. Depth is what is needed and right now I simply do not believe we have it. There is room for both Simmons and Blankenship on this roster. Jones is not yet ready to return and we don’t know when he will return. CJGJ missed a lot of time last year for Detroit and missed 6 games for us the year before. Maddox hasn’t played Safety in years (though I will say I did like him a lot at Safety) and he also misses time due to injury. And I mean McCollom is really a last resort option (at this point) in an ideal world.
August 14, 20241 yr Well he's been to a couple of different teams within these past 2 weeks alone and left unsigned... either he is asking to much from teams or they weren't as impressed with him as many on this board are. It's probably a little of both but we brought in Sterns and not Simmons which has me saying hmmmm....

And I mean McCollom is really a last resort option (at this point) in an ideal world. Actually, Maddox played safety last year when he returned from his injury. Here's the thing about injuries: People tend to make them seem more frequent than they really are. Take a guy like Maddox who we all agree has been injury prone. Despite all his injuries he's had in his NFL career, he's still played in 2 out of every 3 games his team has had. CJGJ has played closer to 3 out of every 4 games his teams have had. Based on pure statistical probability, it's very unlikely that if Maddox was the backup to CJGJ that both would be injured at the same time and we would have to seek a 3rd option. It's pretty much a lock we are keeping CJGJ, Blankenship, Brown, DeJean, and Maddox on the final roster. What fringe player at any position currently projected to make the final roster do you suggest we replace with Simmons and how much of the Eagles' remaining cap are you willing to spend to sit a backup safety unlikely to play ST?

I mean look Brown isn’t healthy right now and we don’t know when he will be. CGJG is likely to miss time but yeah ok I take your point it’s unlikely Maddox would be injured at the same time. Blankenship is an OK starter and a great story. And we don’t know what they plan to do with DeJean but we do know he’s missed time during his first NFL TC and he’s not played safety.
