Let's not kid ourselves, we're still winning in spite of Brian Johnson, not because of him

We won that last game mostly because of Hurts just playing catch and go with AJ. It wasn't due to any amazing play calling, that's for sure.

I can think of maybe only one good call, that screen pass to Goedert. Rest of the game was just boring runs up the middle, Jalen dropping back and waiting for AJ to get open, or the tush push.

When every week you hear broadcasters call out "why did they call that play"?, you know you have a problem. Are we just going to let this go on?

We've had bad coordinators before...Dana Bible, Juan Castillo...I think BJ is almost qualified to be in that group. I mean Gannon had his own style and was infuriating at times, but at least he was competent

I think that’s slightly unfair. The game plan was better last night and there was a balance of run vs pass.

Don’t get me wrong there’s still a lot of work to be done but I thought it was better. Johnson and Sirianni both need to do a better job as does Hurts who needs to reduce the turnovers.

I don't see how it was better. It just seemed better because we were playing a bad defense which was down two starting CBs.

If we play like this against a top tier defense, the outcome will be like the Jets game last week.

Some people are never happy.

The reason we lost to the jets was 4 turnovers and a missed FG

Agreed. Once Elliot missed that FG I switched off the game as I knew it was one of those nights and we’d lose.

I think he calls way too many empty backfield plays, and I don't know who is responsible for taking Swift out for series when he's getting 5 yards a tote to put Gainwell in for 2 yards a tote, but that crap was old when Duce Staley used to pull it, Gainwell should just be getting the odd run to spell Swift.

That said I think a lot of our problems (such as they are) are sloppy execution as much as play call. the receivers dropped a few catchable balls again Yesterday and our pass protection ranges from stellar to barely there, but it will get better as QB and OC get more in sync.

Fact is no team is sacking their OC at 6-1

I’d like to see more creativity. They have looked better on offense now that they got Goedert involved but I feel there’s still more potential to be unlocked.

We already all know 95% of your posts are 🤢, this guy was competent???

Who said or insinuated we were winning because of Brian Johnson? I crashed right after the game, so I must have missed those comments.

The voices in his head told him that.

7 games into 2021, many Eagles fans were more than ready to get rid of Steichen. I don't really care who the OC is, I'm not going to agree with every call in every game. Some of the plays that haven't worked weren't because of a bad call, but instead were a product of bad execution.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Hurts isn't even half the threat he was last year as a ball carrier. It's not because he can't be. It's because he's running to "not get hurt." I can't for the life of me understand why he keeps the ball on a read option only to slide 2 yards behind the LOS. Last year, he would have made that first defender attempt to bring him down (and he won most of those). So on 1st down when you have at a minimum a 1-2 yard gain and are turning it into a 2-yard loss to prevent a hit, and your next play is a 7 yard gain, instead of 3rd and 1, you have a 3rd and 5, now your team's best chain moving play is off the table.

Teams aren't totally ignoring Hurts as a threat to run. The dolphins employed a spy on defense which helped our passing game last night. But the Eagles aren't making the QB runs sting like the offense did last year and is a large reason why things look different.

No one.

Some of those 4 turnovers are a result of Hurts, and poor Playcalling by the OC.

Juan actually wasn't that bad, statistically he was better than McDermott before him and bowels after him with the same players

The problem was the idiot d line coach washburn.

Having said that yeah, BJ has been pretty bad

If I see one more QB draw inside the 10 I may shoot my TV, it's not working move on already...

Agreed....the team and Hurts will just never do enough for people in here.....smh

I somewhat agree with the thread title statement, but I don't 100% agree.  The offense isn't all that much different from last year as far as what we do, overall.  The timing of the play calls has been bad, particularly in the RZ.  And the play of the OL isn't as sharp as it was last season.  Defenses are playing us differently as well.

That said, Johnson needs to get much better in developing a "feel" for what plays to call and when to call them.  Steichen seemed to have that down to a science.  It also wouldn't hurt if Sirianni would implement some more creative play designs.  Sometimes it seems defenses know what we are going to do before we do it.

Talent is certainly there on offense but Johnson has been struggling with calling plays

The offense is top 5 in most categories. I agree the play calling between the 10 and the 5 is horrendous but other than that they've been very good.  Seems like people pick out the plays that didn't work and complain but not every play works and it's the overall results that matter

A sad reality of being the quarterback of the Eagles is some hate you when you’re bad or good. They’re always looking at that backup guy to replace you.

All I'm saying is the criticism of BJ shouldn't stop....this offense is still not playing anywhere near its full potential and most of that is his fault.

Unlike Desai who is getting more done with less talent (heck I think at this rate Desai is in consideration for Defensive Coach of the Year award if there is such a thing), BJ is doing the opposite.

Agreed.....the Birds are winning in spite of BJ.....that is very telling because at one point I was thinking the exact same thing when AR was here in his last few years.....
