Does he keep the red arm sleeve in Philly? As my son says, " It's drippy"

So how much of an upgrade is this? I mean he’s good but how good.

I'm looking at this the same way I'm looking at the Julio Jones signing... Sure  they might not be what they once were but I'd still rather watch this dude play... I'm looking at you Quez

Byard only just turned 30 he has way more in the tank than julio

Definitely an upgrade, no doubt.  But he's probably not the player he once was.

Good enough to be an all pro so pretty freaking good

Oh I agree and know im just saying that I would absolutely rather see what these guys can do rather than what we already know we have...

Oh ok, I got you and I also agree

Oldest Eagles right now:

  • Kelce, Graham 35
  • Julio Jones 34
  • Lane Johnson 33
  • Cox, Slay 32
  • Roby, Lovato 31
  • Bradberry, Byard 30
  • Reddick, Mariota 29

They add a 30 year old and some say he's too old. This offseason they gave new contracts to Kelce, Slay, Bradberry & Cox. Signed Roby recently.

This is a team trying to win a Super Bowl this year. They have young safeties in Blankenship & Brown. They can still draft younger safeties in the future as well.

Given the price it’s hard to imagine this won’t work out for us.

He's a huge upgrade over the trashcan they traded to get him. GREAT job Howie!!

At LB, Nakobe Dean getting healthier and more comfortable will help, and Nolan Smith just got his first sack last night and maybe we'll see more reps from him as the season goes on.  We know LB is probably the weak spot on the team, but if the secondary gets healthy and the D line dominates, that really takes pressure off them.

we know that the plan is (probably) to replace Reddick with Nolan Smith...and If Nolan shows this kind of promise, Howie might trade Reddick at the draft for a player at another position or as draft capital to move up or stockpile...seems to me like this might be the thought process...and would be consistent...

Haven’t had bad experiences saying that about players. 😁

I did promise myself never to say again: ‘Should be an easy win’ though..

Kelly Green will look better.

I understand the thought process on that. I  think Smith has a long way to go to be Reddick.   Reddick isn't easy replaceable.

Quite the upgrade. But, another 1 year rental player??!!

Possibly…

He’s due $14 million next season, so we could restructure/extend him. He’s 30 years old, so 2-3 more seasons maybe?

I see people saying that but OTC shows him under contract next year so I don't know either. I guess you can cut him for nothing next year if needed though.

Yes, precisely. We can either:

1) cut Byard after the season with zero cap hit and receive no comp pick

2) restructure his deal to spread the $14 million due next year over multiple seasons (possibility of a hold out which would prevent it).

3) give him a multi year deal

Tons of options with no risk/dead cap space in 2024+ as of now

All the people saying he is too old are bumming me out

Not sure why they are even saying that he just turned 30 and safeties play well into their mid 30's
