Posted October 30, 20231 yr First, I think acquiring Kevin Byard was a steal and will help us this year. My issue is that we really don't have many draft picks left at a time when we'll really need them. Kelce and BG are almost surely going to retire. Fletch might. Both corners are getting old. We only have 1 linebacker signed for next year. Driscoll is a free agent. After our first and 2 seconds, I;m not sure what picks we have. The traded picks post in NFL DRaft and College Football PAge is a bit confusing. If we gert 3 compensation picks they'll likely be a 4, 5, and 6. Since they're the end of the round they're actually a 5,6, and 7. So, let's go with what we know - a 1 and 2 2's. 1 - G JC Latham, Alabama 6'6" 326. Jurgens to C and Latham is a bookend to Dickerson. 2 - CB Terrion Arnold, Alabama 6'0" 4.49. 2 - DE Jack Sawyer Ohio State 6'4" 260 4.7
October 31, 20231 yr Author Well, I was a day too early. Jimmy Kempski posted an article last evening detailing the Eagles current 2024 draft picks. Al least I got the 1 and 2 2'2 - here are the rest. They have a 3 (comp pick) four 5's including 3 comp picks, and a 6
November 4, 20231 yr We have 3 or at best 4 chances to acquire talented rookies, so pick wisely. Based upon the previous statement, I would consider a WR, DE and QB or OL with my first 3 selections. Some interesting names to consider: WR Egbuka, Odunze, Coleman, Rice, Wells, McMillan, Gadsden, Roman and Johnny Wilson, Legette, Coreley DE Trice, Tuimoloau, Latu, Chop/Isaac (PSU), Sawyer, Umanmielen QB Nix, Penix, Ewers, Travis, Leonard, Ward, KJ Jefferson OL Mims, Suamataia, Barton, Beebe, Fautanu, Guyton, Fisher, Cohen

We have a young develpmental guy in McKee and I think signing a veteran free agent is th emost likely scenario at the position. I'm with you on the other 3 positions. At WR I'd hope it 's a fast slot specialist to replace Quez Watkins. People hate to see redshirt years but an OT who is a potential starter would be my pick. As far as DE's go - Barnett has to be replaced, but if I'm the GM BG can be an Eagle as long as he wants to be and hopefilly that includes next year. After those 3 top picks we'll have a 3, three 5's and a 6. Let's look at the other positions. DT - Not a draft priority. Only Fletcher Cox is a free agent. He's having a very good year, bring him back. CB - Maybe not a priority even though our starters are lookin good. Let's see how they play the second half of the year. Maddox will be back. So will McPherson. Rodgers is sitting out his full year suspension and he's a potential starter. And then we have a wealth of young potential - Ricks, Jobe, and Ringo. S - Do we resign Byard? Even if the answer is yes, we only have 3 on the roster now and one (McCollum) on the practice squad. This would be in my 3rd round thinking. LB - we always need linebackers. Cunningham and Morrow are free agents. Cunningham has played well so I'd hope he's back. Dean has struggled and doesn't appear to be the anwers. Elliss and VanSumeren have potential, butI sure wouldn't count on them. Our special teams ace, Bradley, is a free agent and on IR, but special teams has been better without him. Eagles probably use a 5th OL - we agreed on a high quality guy in the first couple of rounds, but both Driscoll and Opeta are free agents. The rest of the league generally overpays for graduates of Stoutland University so a 5th for a G/C combo seems to be in the cards. RB - Swift, Penny, and Scott are all free agents. There would be a big debate whether to take a RB or a S in the 3rd. I guess it depends on free agency. TE - not a draft priority QB - I'd sign a veteral backup and it wouldn't be a draft priority.
January 20, 20241 yr You're welcome Well, it's two months later and your assessment holds up well. Truth be told, roster formation is a continuous process - 12 months a year. Myself, I've vacillated numerous times since then (11/1/23). The draft is only one of several sources for new talent. Past history demonstrates that you should aim for picking up future starters in the first 50 or so picks - priortizing QB, OT, WR, DE and CB. Since the fall from 10-1, I've reset my focus to CB for the first selection in the draft (nuff said). In fairness, we've collected several young, talented but mostly untested corners lately. However, none of them warranted 31 other teams to invest a first or second round pick to obtain them. There seem to be at least 5 or 6 corners in this year's draft with first round talent and we might need a new starter next season, so let's get one. The 2024 draft appears to contain sufficient talent to acquire a WR that can contribute on day 2. Versatility would be a distinct asset. I anticipate that Byard wil need to renegotiate or he will become history. Regardless, we will need at least one new safety. Linebacker screams for upgrading. We should draft one on day 2 and use a 5h rounder or veteran for additional depth. Offensive line is above my pay grade to solve. We may lose 3 pieces to retirement/FA. Depth must be given serious consideration, both in the draft and elsewhere. TE and QB are not immediate needs (at starter). But depth presents a serious vulnerability and should be given overall consideration when obtaining new talent. Jordan Travis might be a good gamble in later rounds. He might need to sit for a year on IR. To be continued.
