Posted October 30, 20231 yr Trading Street opens up a spot on the 53 man for Jurgens returning from IR. However, the Dallas game there are going to be some tough/interesting roster decisions in the next few weeks with no obvious corresponding moves. Assuming no one gets hurt during the Dallas game and requires an IR trip, the following players would be eligible (or need) to be on the 53 man for the KC game. 1. Julio Jones (must be added to 53) 2. Justin Evans 3. Quez Watkins My first thought is that once Jones is added, they never bring Quez back from IR. OZ becomes their 4th WR only because he plays ST where Quez doesn't. I could also see them bringing back Quez, solely because he's a deep threat (though he couldn't catch a cold). If that happens, does OZ get cut? But assuming they want all 3 players on the 53 man , let's play this out. Who are the corresponding cuts/releases. My guesses in order: 1. Patrick Johnson He's good STer, but has been inactive the last 2 games. 2. Josiah Scott, He'd be #1 except that Roby has been hurt and he's the only true nickel they have, even if he's not that great) 3. Christian Elliss. A bit of a surprise because he's a core STer and we only have 3 other LBs, but they traded for Albert O, don't want to lose Ojomo, and need Penny for depth given Swift's injury history. Plus I don't think Elliss has played at all on D this year. One obvious move may be to put Calcaterra on the IR and leave him there for the rest of the year (unless one of the other TEs gets hurt), using his concussion history as an excuse even if he's cleared protocols and eligible to return. Any other thoughts.

Any other thoughts. I think one of Johnson or Eliss would go not both, purely for ST reasons. Scott seems to be the obvious one. Other candidates for the third spot could then be Penny, Calcaterra to IR, try and squeeze Driscoll to PS (they played Steen at RG above him so he is only cover for RT now but if they think Steen or Johnson could cover that, it may be a risk they are willing to take)
October 31, 20231 yr I don't think it is a safe assumption that the roster spot that opened by dealing Street is to add Jurgens. With the trade deadline less than 9 hrs away it could very well be to add someone new via another trade (rumors have it Howie is looking to add a LB). If that does happen that obviously further complicates the roster juggling needed to get some of those guys back.

Any other thoughts. Calcaterra will go to IR and may stay there for the rest of the year. He isn't needed and the TE we picked up may have a higher upside. Watkins will also stay on IR until needed. Julio makes him redundant so someone will have to get injured for him to return. Need to mention the need for a cover LB. It's a passing league and that is why Dean lasted until the 3rd round. He doesn't have to skills to run and cover and is a liability on passing downs
October 31, 20231 yr I'm not so sure Roby is better than Scott. But with the development of Ricks who has outplayed pretty much everybody, the continued use of Brown and the acquisition of Byard, it's possible both Roby and J. Scott are expendable and could find their way back to the PS if waived.

He is a FA after the season and won't be re signed. I doubt they do anything with him
October 31, 20231 yr Agree with trading Driscoll, we have toth and Clark on the practice squad in case of emergency.

November 1, 20231 yr What kinda sucks about us playing all these close games and not blowing anyone out is that the subs never get a chance to play. Will we ever see Mariota this season?
November 3, 20231 yr I wonder how bad Calcaterra’s concussion is. Concussions basically ended his college career and now he just got another once he starts getting some time. His NFL career might not be able to take off as he hoped it would.
