Just the fact that Schefter says that the Cowgirls are interested, now I want him in Kelly Green!!!

hard pass:

guys a shell of his former self/injury waiting to happen

He says he's fully recovered from his back surgery, and if he is healthy then he's a clear upgrade on what we have. He went downhill after Bradley arrived in Indy, hard to tell if that's injury, scheme or both.

But it also depends what money he wants, the Cowboys have twice the cap space we have as of right now, so we might struggle to land him anyway, unless we can sell him on a better chance of a ring.

I don't know if this is anything more than just pure speculation, connecting dots to teams who recently lost a starting LB (Eagles - Dean, Cowboys - Vender Esch).  I know his level of play has been down this year due to the 2 back surgeries he had last year but if they feel he can get back to that dominant level of play pre-injury it may be worth taking a flier on him with sights on next season (similar to what they did with Rodgers).

Isn't every FA and trade candidate always have so called "Philly rumblings" ? Agent moves to up the price.

When healthy he is one of the top LB's in the NFL.....why wouldn't we take a flyer on him?  It's up to him where he choses to play, money shouldn't be a factor as he's going to get paid his guaranteed money....so if he wants a ring.....go get him and take a chance.

There are some observers that say his decline in numbers is more because Bradley's system requires he play a very rigid role and he's constantly thinking about the system, whereas Eberflus gave him more freedom to use his instincts to get to the ball.  I don't know how true that is, but they sure did cut bait quickly after some pretty innocuous comments about wanting more snaps.

From what I gather, he was having ankle weakness as a result of radiculopathy/ nerve compression….and they were incorrectly working it up as an ankle injury before discovering the back issue.  If he had a damn drop foot from lumbar stenosis, it’s pretty unlikely he’ll play anything close to his original level ever again.

Well apparently he did have ankle surgery in '21 and he was given his big contract, so there must have been an injury there at some point. If it was drop foot his mobility issue would be way more serious than losing a yard, which is the worst I've seen levelled at him, and the team wouldn't have even tried to bring him back.

Pretty sure Howie would take a look on him.  We aren't strong in the LB group, adding a proven vet would help.  As a FA now, he won't cost a lot to sign him.  Questions are his health and character.

Eagles probably just threw their name out to Shefty just to drive the price up for the Cowboys.

He would say that though right? He’s looking for a new team so he wants teams to be interested.

One thing we know for sure… Howie will be doing his due diligence. Doesn’t mean we will sign him but Howie will be doing his checks etc.

Character?

There's no question whatsoever about his character. He's one of the highest "character" guys in the league. The only question with Leonard is if he can get back to his all pro form  --- post injuries.

Why did the Colts waive him in the first place?

There are multiple stories that him and Gus Bradley just don't get on. he moaned about still playing reduced snaps when he's fully recovered and although he was out of guaranteed money after this year he was expensive if he did hang around and would likely have been a candidate to restructure which would have been a pain in the ass if he's unhappy anyway, so cutting him now and seeing where they've got before they get to the draft makes as much sense as keeping an unhappy player.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread there's a few articles that suggest that his numbers may not be down to just injury but because linebackers have very specific roles in Bradley's scheme whereas Eberflus trusted talent to know what to do at their position.

No question they should bring him in for depth if nothing else. Low risk move.

Eagles just released Barnett.  Making room for Leonard...

Quez

Is he fully recovered from that nerve surgery in his back yet?

This isn't another Robert Quinn thingy, right???

Meaning, why sign him if he is cooked and can't help the team.

Signing a guy (for cheap) that can potentially help you (at an area of need) during an impending playoff run is a bit different than sending a 4th round pick for a player at a position that was already a massive strength.

Heard his agent liked a "Fly Eagles Fly" tweet today. Could just be posturing for a deal with Dallas or another team. In any case if he comes here I trust Howie will do his due diligence and only make a deal that makes sense. No reason to believe otherwise.
