Haha I guess that depends on your definition of "losing their minds".  I personally don't consider complaining about playcalling in a close win or loss as losing your mind.

There are some that do way more than simply complain about play calling.  Call for coaches to be fired, players to be cut, declare the season is over, they will lose out the rest of the schedule, they will be one and done if they make the playoffs, etc.

So our outside corners allowed 32 yards and we continued to run the same schemes that leave the middle of the field bare, instead of forcing SF to throw the ball outside. #DeSaiLogic

The vast majority of their yardage was YAC, they didn't bother throwing outside at all. It's less a Desai logic thing, and more I don't know if our defense in current install has answers for that. They lined up with a FB specifically to attack us there. Notably, that's not something we can do.

It's why I said Shanahan didn't even have Brock Purdy play NFL QB. He just drew up crazy underneath plays with lots of motion and confusion, blocked us up, and won basically entirely from YAC.

If you make Purdy HAVE to play NFL QB you can beat the 49ers.

I don't think people would be "losing their minds" if it was a close loss.  I think it was because it was an embarrassing blowout loss at home.

Oh, we'd lose our minds then, too. I think the EMB is collectively losing its mind over this one, not just because they got blown out at home, but because this loss was a culmination of all the shoddy play that we've seen this season that, so far, we've been able to get away with. We've seen the linebackers struggle in coverage. We've seen Slay and Bradberry lose a step on the outside. We've seen the safeties oscillate between being mediocre to being completely invisible. We've seen a running game that's been way less effective and creative this year. We've seen Hurts take some ugly sacks, hold onto the ball too long, or bail out of the pocket way too soon. It's honestly a testament to the leadership on the team that we've been able to get away with all that and eke out close wins time after time.

So yeah, that game was emblematic of all the issues we've seen all year. We finally ran into a team that was good enough to completely destroy us and close the door on any thought of a comeback emphatically. I'm typically on the optimistic side of things when it comes to our chances. I still think we're one of the best teams in the league. We're probably one of five or so teams that has a shot to win it all, capable of beating almost any team on any given Sunday. That said, it's tough to see a performance like that and feel good about our chances in a rematch. I mean, we got spanked in every phase of the game. If the game were 120 minutes long and the niners got 10 more drives, I think they would have scored a TD on every single one. Is what it is. Hopefully we somehow pull out the one seed and someone knocks the niners off before the NFCCG.

Yeah I'm sure a vocal minority do, and I believe some of that is hyperbole and posting while frustrated in the moment in the GDTs.  I'm sort of just taking the average reaction that I see on the board after a close win or loss after we've had a chance to vent and let the dust settle a bit.

I mean we're speculating so we can agree to disagree on the board reaction, but I think it would have been less of a negative reaction if the final score had been 28-24 instead of 42-19.  Some would realize and take into account the 3 games in 13 days, the hellacious part of our schedule that people thought we'd lose a couple games in there anyway, etc.  But I agree with everything else you said.

They have to cut somebody or have some phantom injury where the guys ends up on IR.  My guess is Albert O gets cut if no phantom injury somewhere.  Julio probably should get the heave ho but that would be a bad look.  All they ask the guy to do is block.

Much surprised that Julio has not been used much so far.  Even Watkins got more targets this past game than Julio.  Are they saving him as surprise in later games?  Or he is learning the system too slowly?

I don't think it's surprise.  They got him involved earlier and he's had 1 or 2 targets most games, with a couple games with 0 targets.  You would think with Goedert out he might help get a few extra looks but the backup TEs aren't getting targets either.

Quez actually had 4 targets.  Swift and Gainwell each had 6.  Scott had 1.  Even Albert O had 1.

They just really don't target anyone much after Brown, Smith and Goedert which makes sense but need to game plan to get others a bit more involved.  With Goedert out, Hurts doesn't have the safety blanket.  They should use JJ more or check down to Swift and get him in space.

Julio is 34 - just isnt anymore what he used to be and each year has been steadily declining. He didn't do much in Tampa last year either, and while better wasn't exactly an impact player with the Titans the year before either.

Those passes to AJ Brown weren't even close in the RZ. They gotta come up with something better than that. Was hoping they'd try another big bodied guy down there named Julio.

Or Stoll, get the ball in his hands and let him hit somebody. He got the ball more last year, and Hurts likes him. He his a solidly built dude that should’ve been worked into the offense before Quez for this "physical” game, I don’t know why they think speed is always the answer to everything, especially in a condensed area like the rz. The coaches just seem to refuse to look at the actual personnel they are using sometimes.

That's funny!  They beat Miami, Buffalo and KC but lose to SF (which I kind of knew was going to happen) and people are losing their minds.

Yeah I get that the loss sucks, but we’re still very much in the running. Buffalo and KC are struggling too. Dallas lost to Arizona. SF went on a 3 game losing streak. The parity across the league is razor thin, this year is so wide open for the Super Bowl. One bad game doesn’t mean it’s over for us. I honestly think Eagles probably needed this reality check. Hopefully they bounce back against Dallas

It's nauseating. Suddenly Hurts isn't good as well.

It's not Hurts, it's Mr. Peanut Head, if the jackarse would stop with the we don't value this position and that position the Eagles would be the team you guys want.

He says he don't value certain positions and then runs to free agency and paying premium prices for old washed up players and the Eagles fans say, "Go Howie Go!!"

Because no one speaks against the "we don't value" foolishness that makes most on this board just as dumb as Howie.......10-2 my arse, tell me 10-2 when they're one and done come playoff season.

Yeah nobody on the board has ****ed about Howie's refusal to address Linebacker properly at all ever, it doesn't come up literally every time a top end college linebacker comes up in 'I want the Eagles to get' no sir.

He has never said he doesn't value LB or any other position.  Rather he has made it known that he prioritizes building in the trenches (so OL and DL) and after that is obvious that (on defense) CB is the next priority.  I understand prioritizing DL and DB more but no excuse to completely neglect LB other than late round draft picks, UDFAs, and veteran castoffs (and the occasional swing at mid round LBs like Dean, Taylor, and Hicks - the only 3 picks on LB made in the last 10 years ... all in the 3rd ... other than Joe Walker taken with a 7th in 2016).  Hicks was good but oft injured.  Taylor - I have no idea what he was thinking with that pick.  Jury is still out on Dean but early indications are it was another miss.  For all the good Howie gets credit for doing and all that he has learned (most recently like take the best players from the best programs in the best conference), he still needs to learn the importance of having solid players at every level of the defense.

Every championship aspiring/caliber team craps the bed once in a while. That hasn't escaped the Niners, Cowboys or Chiefs this year either.

Great teams usually dont crap the bed this late in the season though. Its usually too late to expect things will change. id like to be proven wrong.though.

Every playoff caliber team has looked awful in games.  49ers blew out the Cowboys then lost 3 games in a row.  Chiefs lost to the Broncos in a close low scoring game, and earlier had to claw back to beat them in a whopping 19-8 game.  They just lost to the Packers.  Most of their wins have been close games with lower scoring.  Last year they lost to the Colts in the regular season then went on to win the SB.  Ravens lost in OT to the Colts, Steelers and Browns in a close 3 point game.

Teams are up and down and momentum shifts.  The 49ers have bounced back from their losses and are playing really well right now.  Eagles were given a hellish stretch in the schedule with little rest against teams coming off bye or extra days rest and the best teams on their schedule in "the gauntlet" and so far lost 1 game in that stretch.  To a team getting hot, had 10 days rest while the Eagles played 3 games in 13 days.  It was bound to happen.  BG said he was glad they got whooped so they can realize their mistakes and move forward.  It's on them to shake this off and prove themselves this week against Dallas.

If this were to a lesser team in different circumstances you'd have a point.  The league game them the hardest stretch of football now, and 49ers got hot and had 10 days rest while the Eagles had 3 games in 13 days, injuries to starting LBs and TE and the defense was gassed from being on the field so much vs the Bills (their fault but still it's a factor).  The league game them the 49ers and Cowboys both with extra days rest from playing earlier Thursday games, after we played the Chiefs and Bills.

Then after all that they get Giants-Cards-Giants.  Imagine they had one of the Giants games mixed into that stretch instead?  The "gauntlet" was set and the Eagles have only lost 1 of the gauntlet games.

Now it's up to them to respond.  They get Goedert back, maybe Cunningham, adding in Shaq we'll see if he's any better than what they've had.  They need to shake off the loss and get focused.

I hated this loss to San Fran, but I still think the loss to the Saints last year at the Linc, even without Hurts, was a worse loss. That Eagles team recovered from that horrible game, let's see if this team can respond.
