It really isn't, you simpleton. This may come as a shock to you, but two viewpoints can exist at the same time. If you want to argue about the conflict in the middle east and the issues with Israel/Palestine you can do that. That argument has been going on for years and it will never get solved because one side doesn't want peace or a two-state system: they want the other side destroyed.

But as a school administrator/president, your number one job is for the safety and well-being of your students. And not having the common sense to say on the stand that a call for genocide of a specific group of people "depends on the context" as far as if it's hate speech or not is a hypocritical, cowardice stance. Primarily because we all know what their answer would have been if they changed the question to any of their "oppressed" groups instead of Jews/Catholics/Whites who they view as oppressors. What do Jewish students attending Harvard, Penn, MIT, etc have anything to do with what's going on with Israel/Palestine? Absolutely nothing. Those kids at Cornell who had to lock themsevles in the library because a mob was on the other side of the door have nothing to do with the conflict.

Protests happen on college campuses.  That’s not a new thing.  Using phrases like "kill all Jews” is problematic because there’s Jewish students attending classes on those campuses.  But a violation of the university’s code of conduct depends on that university’s code of conduct.  I don’t have the UPenn one memorized, but the college president probably should.

Probably dumb of me to share this but my daughter got in trouble this fall at college.  Someone at the Residence Life office wanted to interview her about an incident.  My wife was like, "I’m getting her an attorney.”  As soon as my wife did that they canceled the interview and were like, "you didn’t violate the code of conduct.”

For my part I told my daughter to stop drinking and acting like an idiot.

They do have it memorized and they all knew what the correct answer to the question that Stefanik kept pressing them on. The same school that cries about an offensive Halloween costume, if you use the wrong pronouns, or if you walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk all of the sudden is tongue-tied when asked about if the call for a genocide is considered hate speech? It's pretty rich where and when they decide to draw the line on their virtue-signaling.

So you’re fine with someone dressing up for Halloween as a NSDAP, but someone saying "kill the Jews” in Arabic makes you upset?

The above logic is what I'm angry about. The real issue, at least in this country, is the thought process and rhetoric displayed by the presidents in the hearing. It's not a "distraction from the real issue" it's a pervasive, hypocritical, logic that needs to be eradicated. That is a real issue. Israel/Palestine is a geo-political issue that goes back years and will never be solved because again, one side does not want peace or a legitimate resolution.

I don't really care what the code of conduct is. If it doesn't consider calls for genocide against a group of people whether it's Jews/Blacks/Gays/Purple people, etc then it's faulty and designed by people who have the thought process that I've been criticizing. And the fact that all three of the presidents tried to play the semantics game and find loopholes around the question was comical. 

If Stefanik asked Claudine Gay "Is calling for the genocide of black people considered hate speech" what do you think her answer would have been? Do you think she would have been a tongue-tied, stumbling moron trying to semantic her way out of the question and saying it depends on the context, or would she have given a definitive Yes answer?
