Depends on cancer and what stage it’s discovered.  Is there a universal cure, no.  Just loss my DIL to uterine cancer.  My FIL, 2 brothers and sister all died from cancer.  All were discovered in late stages.  Cancers sucks !

Earlier stage cancers have shown to respond well to the treatments available and are giving people a good quality of life, disease free, for many years.

December 17th is 6 years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was staged at 2B.  1 positive sentinel node out of 2 removed. Tumor was 98% estrogen.  So, although they call this the "good kind" I am at high risk for a late distant reoccurrence. I am still taking the anti-hormone pill for possibly 2 more years if no toxicity issues. I do tolerate it well.  It lessens my fear. 

My husband was diagnosed with extensive stage small cell lung cancer.  7 months from diagnosis to death.  The NON small cell lung cancers has made great strides as they now target the gene mutation that make up the cancer in which they now have a variety of medicines that are showing promise.

As you all get older your risk increases, so keep up with your blood work and any screenings your Doc recommends.  Your odds are usually better the sooner it's found.  Good luck, it's still a crap shoot.
