It was just announced that Fangio and the Dolphins have parted ways.

I’m not a huge fan but I’m sure Howie will jump all over this.

I think they should jump all over it. Let’s do something different.

Desai tried running his defense last year

Meh. Same defense Desai ran. Sign me up for Ron Rivera. The last time he was a DC, the Chargers had the #1 ranked defense (only 271 yards per game).

I’m tired of these soft coverage schemes.

The entire userbase would implode, and they're already ready to implode on Nick. I think we should do something else if just to not basically put the team in an impossible situation.

If Vic Fangio is DC and they do anything less than win the Super Bowl, the userbase will be out for everyone's heads.

We're Fd if they hire this guy.

Yeah. It's not even about the level of his scheme or whatever. Fangio himself can probably still field a good defense with this scheme. However fans will be about ready to jump off cliffs, and that's the real problem. It's not sustainable PR wise.

Not with this personnel that I really don't see vastly improving.

Oh, no, I didn't mean Eagles defense. I meant he himself is probably not washed. With the talent itself, yeah, not great. Particularly because of aging back end and poor LBs. You can't run coverage based schemes with a limited amount of people that can cover. That's why I felt Ron and Martindale were better picks, more straightforward.

For starters, you do have to wonder if someone more seasoned could have gotten more out of lesser players as Desai was dealt (from either forcing bottom of roster guys on to the field due to all the injuries or just that the projected starters were not all that good like Morrow and Edmunds).  But judging by comments Howie made yesterday, it would seem we may focus more on defense this offseason (free agency, draft) so hopefully someone with as much experience as Fangio has and some talent added to that side will yield in better results (I think the odds of being worse are slim so there is that).  Throw in the hope that some of the young players like Ricks and Ringo and Brown that got valuable play time might build on that and take a major leap in year 2 (and of course having Rodgers added to the mix at CB) and our defense may not be as bad as some seem to think.

I don't think we could have gotten much more out of UDFAs, retreads, and rookies. They literally couldn't do anything. Man, Zone, tackle, blitz. Nothing. Definitely a major Howie failure in that regard. They had too much hopium for Dean for whatever reason and let too many starters walk.

it's not a bad hire, but Rivera would have been better

Who’s here to eat some crow on the Fangio hire.

I was personally hoping for Ron Rivera but at this point I doubt it'd look much different

I hate soft defenses. At least Rivera would be aggressive.
