Posted February 6, 20241 yr Just started doing my homework on the draft class. Love the corners, receivers and offensive linemen, not a great RB, TE, S and D-line class IMO. We took DT’s in back to back years in the first and also selected a pass rusher in Nolan Smith. D-line shouldn’t be that high on their list in 2024, right?! Please gimme a corner in the first, Howie. Have to see it to believe it and until it actually happens, I say it won’t. Here goes; Bring back; Fletcher Cox, Jason Kelce, BG, D’Andre Swift, Zach Cunningham Restructure/extended/new contract; Jordan Mailata, Haasan Reddick, Milton Williams, Landon Dickerson Post June 1 cuts; James Bradberry, Avonte Maddox, Kevin Byard. Notable FA; Patrick Queen, LB, Baltimore Ravens Xavier McKinney, safety, NY Giants Tyler Boyd, WR, Cincinnati Bengals Draft; 1 Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma; 2 Caelen Carson, CB, Wake Forest; 2 Adisa Isaac, DE, Penn State; 3 Ricky Pearsall, WR, Florida; 5 Marist Liufau, LB, Notre Dame; 5 Erick All, TE, Iowa 5 Dylan Laube, RB, New Hamshire; 5 Kitan Oladabo, S, Oregon State.
February 7, 20241 yr Here he is! It must be the offseason because Ray is back and he’s posting mock drafts. Initial reaction? I like the FA moves there I really do. Give me Queen, Boyd and McKinney. And yeah I can see OT in the first. BUT… And look I get that we are limited by what we can do in one offseason. And I know that Howie doesn’t prioritise LB and S and never will. But this isn’t enough work on defense. LB and S would still be a real issue. CB would be a major issue based on these moves too.

Depends on how you look at it. Queen, Cunningham and a healthy Dean might be enough. Adding McKinney and Oladabo to the mix with Brown and Blankenship returning is an upgrade too. Plus; system is different. As for corner. Yes, I’d love for the Eagles to sign L’Jarius Sneed or Jaylon Johnson in FA or trade for Patrick Surtain but I don’t know if FO views it as big as a problem as we do with young bucks like Ricks and Ringo waiting in the wings.

Cunningham fell off after a decent start and Dean so far has struggled to stay healthy and hasn’t exactly shone when he’s played. Sure it is an upgrade but I mean at this point it’s hard not to upgrade the position. If the FO think corner is ok then we are in trouble. Slay is set to be another year older. Ringo and Ricks flashed but are about to learn a new scheme again.

He completely surprised me when he traded for Slay. Let’s hope he does it again this year for Surtain… My ideal offseason; Trade for Surtain, sign both Winfield Jr. and Queen. Likely too expensive I know but even two out of three will do. I’d be over the moon!

I could see Winfield being tug heck maybe even queen.. to bad we couldn’t have made a move for queen this past offseason he was rumored to be on the block and would have been a great addition.

If we could get both and draft a corner like Arnold, Mitchell, McKinstry in the first…ecstatic!
February 9, 20241 yr hey - lookee here. Ray, UK and Cheese are back thank goodness. Ray - i think you're looking at what you expect Howie to do. I'll go with what I want Howie to do. Free Agency S, LB and WR absolutly where the $'s and attension should go so we're on the same page. I don't think Baltimore will let Queen walk but I;d sure tak e him if we could get him. Some alternatives who are accomplished and still young are Murray (Chargers), Uche (NE), White (TB), and Simmons (NYG). Tranqull (KC) would be my back up plan. At safety there are a few possibilities and McKinney is certainly one of them. I wouldn't rule out Curl (Wash), Winfield (TB), Chinn (CAR), or Savage (GB). I don't think Boyd is happy with being the 3rd wheel, but again if he'll come then go get him. In fact I think the Jones / Smith duo will keep many of the better prospects away. Pittmen (Ind), Davis (Buf), Peoples-jones (Det), Higgens (Cin) are all likely to want bigger roles. Resigning OZ, or shooting for the likes of Campbell (NYG) and his ilk. Corner Agreed - I don't think a corner is in the cards Just my own crystal ball says slay and one of the young guys line up this year. With mcPhereson back and Rogers off the suspended list we'll have better backup for Maddox. Resigning our own -As for resigning our own guys My list is different. Kelce is a no brainer I agree on Swift. Add BG to the list Cunningham only if it's veteran minimum. Either Opeta or Driscoll but not both. Mann and Lovato. OZ if he's a last resort and he takes the minimum Let walk - Cox, Mariota, Morrow, Penny, Boston Scott, Roby, Watkins, Jones, Albert O, Bradley, J Scott Restructure - Reddick to save $5-8 million. Cut - agree on Byard post June 1 Draft - remember this is what I want not what I expect form Howie) 1 Safety - Kamren Kitchens, Miami (FL) 2 Linebacker - Edgerin Cooper, Texas A&M 2 Wide Receiver - Jacob Cowing, Arizona 3 Running Back - Will Shipley, Clemson 5 Offensive line - Will Putnam, Clemson 5 Running back - Dillon Laube, New Hampshire 5 Edge - Zion Tupolo-Fetui, Washington 6 Quarterback - Sam Hartman, Notre Dame I'm glad you guys are back in the saddle. Thanks for a great start Ray.
February 10, 20241 yr As expressed above, no draft discussion at this time can be very meaningfull until free agency has run it's course. Additionally, cap considerations must be put to bed in order to proceed into the FA time period. Also, some fine tuning will occur regarding draft prospect projections following the combine later this month. I think we have a general consensus as to how/what the Eagles will do leading up to the draft. For instance, the team will probably attempt to sign about 6 or 7 desireable in-house free agents prior to free agency (hopefully to team-friendly deals). Several others will be given vet minimum offers. As also suggested, somewhere around 6 teammates aproaching free agency will begin negotiations towards restructuring,and/or extending their agreements. Assuming mostly all goes well, management will be in a position to pursue a few select high profile free agents. How's this for a signing out of left field...Bobby Wagner, Seattle Seahawks? As for the draft, I would like to see these 4 positions addressed on days one and two: OL/WR/LB/DB in no particular order. BTW Rob, I like your first 4 picks. However, I feel most of your day 3 picks can be improved upon. Times yours.

Thanks for a great start Ray. Thx Rob. Agree with your assessment. Stopped posting mocks what I would do cause it simply never happens. What I would do?! - Trade for CB Surtain or sign Sneed or Jaylon Johnson; - Sign Antoine Winfield Jr. or Darnell Savage; - Sign LB Azeez Al-Shaair (follows our new LB coach). Draft; 1 Still an OT; 2 Edgerrin Cooper; 2 Still an edge or a WR 3 Still a WR or an edge If we don’t address CB in FA, I’d love for them to draft a CB in the first. This year is the perfect draft to do that IMO. I’d address OL later in the draft. Either McKinstry, Arnold, Mitchell, DeJean (although I believe he’s best suited to play safety at the next level) or Wiggins will fall into our lap in the first. And if they really like one over the other, trading up a couple of spots will definitely be in the cards.
February 10, 20241 yr For pragmatic reasons (salary cap/dead space/experience), I would not write-off either starting corner in 2024. We also have 2 rookie corners ( Ringo/Ricks) that were viewed as talented prospects enering their 2022 college season). Additionally, Maddox has a history of missing games due to various injuries along with a considerable salary that puts his career at risk. Thus, I view corner as a period of transition in 2024. Adding new blood in round one makes alot of sense and has been reflected in numerous mock drafts recently. Unless the Eagles consider the existing backups up to task, more talent is in order. Therefore, one of the 5 sighted by Ray should receive serious consideration. Lane has openly expressed his favorable opinion regarding Oklahoma tackle Tyler Guyton. Considering the Eagles track record, this might be the way they lean towards. In any event, WR/LB are out of the question. I would not in the least be surprised if the Eagles positioned themselves to fulfill both needs on day one.

Considering the Eagles track record, this might be the way they lean towards. Wouldn’t it feel refreshing and even innovative if Howie would use that first rounder on a corner for once?! For almost two decades, the Eagles tried to address the position with mid tier talent. Taking flyers on the likes of Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas, Eric Rowe and Curtis March in the draft or hoping vets like Bradley Fletcher, Cary Williams, Nolan Carroll, Ronald Darby, Steven Nelson etc to fill the void left behind by Brown, Shepherd and Samuel. Instead of drafting a corner in the first, they threw a ton of money at Byron Maxwell, Darius Slay and James Bradberry. Maxwell was never any good and a by product of a great DB field in Seattle. Howie should’ve seen that but he was the best FA corner in the market nonetheless. What a waste of time and money! I’ve always loved Slay but trading for him at age 30 was another risk. Luckily it panned out. And Bradberry was able to squeeze one good season out of him in order to cash out one last time but let’s be honest here…both were entering the twilight of their careers and we were just lucky to get a couple of good years out of them. Isn’t it time for a different approach?! Instead of throwing darts at the board with FA signing and trades, using a first rounder on a quality corner?!
