I think this is the team looking at the cap hit and thinking they need to do something about it to make things work money-wise. Anywhere he goes he will need to get a big new contract. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Eagles extend him. He isn't that old yet and has been highly productive the last two seasons without any signs of slowing down. Reddick is also a great fit for Fangio's scheme. He'll be 30 in Sept. No thanks on 25 mil plus a year

February 11, 20241 yr If we can get a good haul for him and plan on using him in coverage again this year then good. If we trade him for some BS and use Nolan Smith in coverage this year I’ll be pissed.

February 11, 20241 yr They’re going to have to re-sign Devonta soon. Can’t be giving Reddick a huge deal, as much as I hate to see him go.

If they can squeeze a high draft pick or so for him (higher than the 3rd they get for losing him in free agency), I think the team pulls the trigger. Looks like next year would be his last with the team in any event.

If you can get something for him and accelerate the career of our first round pick replacement, that’s a smart decision.
February 12, 20241 yr I want him to stay, but honestly, they can afford to lose him if they get better at the LB and DB positions

If he really wants that much money then find a trade partner. I don't see him getting that kind of money though.
February 12, 20241 yr I understand the move but we’re not going to have any talent on D next year. Jalen Carter, Josh Sweat and a bunch of declining players.

Smith needs a couple more seasons to develop his pass rush but in time he can be as disruptive as Reddick. I've been very happy with Reddick since he arrived and definitely would rather he continue to play here at his current level. But even with Reddick, our defense wasn't getting off the field last season. So if we can work out a trade that creates some cap space and maybe helps us get another player that can help right away, that could be a positive. Originally, I thought Reddick wanted to be here, to be "home." He signed a team friendly deal and outperformed it so far. Maybe he regrets that now and wants a little more. If that's the case, paying him more won't "help" the team at a time where the team desperately needs more help. Nolan Smith could be very good, but he needed a red shirt year to bulk up for the NFL. He’s about $18 mm cheaper than Reddick.

February 12, 20241 yr Reddick is very rarely injured and played almost every game since he's been here. If we're looking at Nolan smith to replace him then i think we'll be disappointed in more ways than one
February 12, 20241 yr I kind of get it from both sides… Reddick wants a new deal and we can’t plunge money in to one player when we have so many holes. But if they trade him what do we do? Sweat isn’t a DE #1 and Smith may be talented but he showed nothing last year. If Reddick goes that leaves a huge hole on defense.
February 12, 20241 yr I’d rather keep Reddick, he’s the best player on the defense & single handily kept us in games or closed them out this past year. On the surface granting the trade sounds bad & doesn’t help the looming concerns about Eagles imploding. Someone mentioned it earlier that you hope this isn’t a "I don’t think Eagles got it anymore” kind of decision for Reddick, and yeah that’s a small fear of mine here. But I think it has to be a money thing mainly, Solak also mentioned something earlier about he was curious about Reddick’s fit in Fangio’s defense & him having to drop into coverage more often, which he apparently hates. I also think you can get a pretty good return for Reddick. So keeping Reddick sounds better for short term, but it’s probably better for long term. Do you keep him to keep your SB chances high, or trade him to find a younger long term asset? What’s a reasonable trade value for him? A 1st feels too high, maybe a team overpays with a 1st or some kind of pick swap where we jump from 50s into the 1st rd, but I doubt it. A 2nd feels fair on both sides. A 3rd would be ok but slightly disappointing.

Reddick is also a great fit for Fangio's scheme. If he finds a trade partner, we'll restructure to lower his base salary to Vet minimum before the league year starts, we'll have to June the 1st him anyway to smooth out his awful dead cap number when he's traded, but taking as much non guaranteed money out of next year as we can will mean we save about $12.5mill on his cap hit as free agency opens up. This is the consequence of the crazy backloading we do on contracts, he was paid too little his first two years so his last year is way too expensive, at least Reddick might be moveable, Slay's contract is even worse dead cap wise, he's untradeable with it and there's no base salary wriggle room, if Lane Johnson retires before he's 36 he'll cost us a minimum Carson Wentz of dead cap too.
February 12, 20241 yr With the contract structures of some of these guys AND paying Hurts too much, this is what we get. Best of luck to him.

Exercising Smiths 5th year option would cost a shade over $15million fully guaranteed, that sounds cheap (ish) for a reliable ~90 catch 1k yard #1A receiver but as a comparison AJ hasn't had a cap hit that high his 2 years here. They might exercise Smith's 5th year to protect their position but they won't go into 2025 with him on that deal, he will have to be paid an extension.
