As most of you have already heard, the Philadelphia Eagles have again added to their coaching staff. Bobby King is the choice. He will take over for last year's linebackers coach D.J. Eliot. ESPN's Tim McManus was first with Wednesday's report.

Philly had previously interviewed former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell and former Green Bay Packers coordinator Joe Barry, but they landed elsewhere. Caldwell joined the Las Vegas Raiders. Barry has aligned himself with the Miami Dolphins. Both have accepted the role of linebackers coach/run game coordinator.

King isn't the owner of a household name or one of those cool football names like 'Gronkowski' or 'Manning'. Truthfully, his name makes the person hearing it feel like they're being introduced to the host of a really cool infomercial, but he's bringing a very nice resume with him.

Here are few fun facts about new Eagles linebackers coach Bobby King.

We have questioned many of the hires during the Nick Sirianni coaching era. The more recent are definitely passing the eyeball test. Add Bobby King's name to that list. Here are a few reasons to do so.

If the Eagles intend to hang on to Zach Cunningham, they'll reconnect him with a man that helped him excel.

It's possible that Zach Cunningham might be around. When Howie Roseman was asked during the Eagles' season-ending presser about Philly's occasional negligence in addressing the needs of the linebacker position, he mentioned Cunningham glowingly and by name.

Cunningham and King have history. They were together for a few seasons with the Houston Texans and in 2022 while both were with the Tennessee Titans.

Bobby King and Nick Sirianni have worked as part of the same coaching staff before.

King is also familiar with Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni. They were both part of the San Diego Chargers' staff from 201-2016. King was the assistant linebackers coach. Coach Sirianni was the quarterbacks coach from 2014 to 2015 and the wide receivers coach in 2016.

The resume is an impressive one and an indicator of why people are interested.

King brings more than 13 years of coaching experience with him. In addition to spending time with the Chargers (2014-2016), the Texans (2011-2013, 2017-2021), and the Titans (2022), a much younger version of King spent the 2010 season with the Dallas Cowboys as their assistant linebackers coach/defensive quality control coach.

We won't hold that against him. We expect he'll be a great asset to Philly's defensive coaching staff and a nice teacher for the still developing Nakobe Dean.
