Report: Eagles are "having trade calls” on DE Josh Sweat

  Published March 9, 2024 10:22 AM

When trade talks happen regarding a given player, it’s important to know whether the calls are being initiated by the player’s current team — or whether the calls are being received.

Sometimes, when the calls are being made, the team tries to create the impression that it’s simply taking the calls. It’s all about maximizing trade leverage; if the team seems to be too interested in moving on, the team gets less.

As to Eagles defensive end Josh Sweat, NFL Media reports that the Eagles are "having trade calls.”

That’s a new one. Deliberately vague. Who’s making them? We don’t know. The Eagles are simply "having” them.

Our guess is that the Eagles are making them, and that the news was specifically leaked to NFL Media with the understanding that the term "having” will be used in order to minimize the perception that the Eagles are a motivated seller.

In 17 games with 17 starts in 2023, Sweat had 6.5 sacks. The prior year, he had 11 sacks in 16 games.

Sweat is entering the final year of his contract with the Eagles.

"sorry, we're not home right now. Kindly leave a message."

Ciao ciao.  Let the rebuild begin.

One first, two thirds and Urlakkerz!!1! at a minumum...

If we are going full 3-4 I don’t see him as a lb so get some value rather then him having a down year signing a prove it contract and not getting anything for it.

Was disappointing last season - but who wasn’t ?

This is BS. Keep him - 9 million cap hit. Trade him - 14 million cap hit.

It saves 21 million for 2025 and it’s needed. Also, a 1st or 2nd round pick. If they don’t want to pay him then they need to move him now.

I do love when people on here think they can manage the cap better than Roseman and his team of capologists.......Now his drafting?  Sure, question away!  But when it comes to pushing the pennies around, I have the ultimate faith in Team Howie.

Only if Fitz is at the airport

I agree with trading him.  Maybe we can get a late 2 or early to mid 3 for him.  Need to reset the salary cap and rebuild with young healthy cheap draft picks.

We would do well to get a 2 for him.  Most likely a 3 and maybe a 5 or 6 either this draft or next

Hes not a fit in a 3-4 not a 3-4 DE nor a 3-4 LB.

Reminds me of when eagles went back to a 43 after firing Chip and Barwin who was a pro bowl OLB in chips 34 moved to DE in dougs 43 and was useless.

Trade sweat while you can get something for him.

I have a hard time believing anyone gives up anything higher than a fourth for him. He’s solid but nothing special really.

I would think the best they'd get would be a 4th and personally I'd take that in a heartbeat.

You might be right on a 4 especially with the expensive extension  that will be necessary.  I was being optimistic on the 3.  Washington got a 2 and a late 3 for their two DEs they traded at the deadline.  Maybe a good team gives us a late 3

You would think a good team would be more apt to want him.  If I couldn't get them to give me a late 3, I'd ask them to trade that pick down, give us the early 4 they acquire and get Sweat and an early 5 for their late 3.

As pointed out by Florio in the article included in the first post, it doesn't appear the Eagles are "getting" trade calls for Sweat but rather they are making calls in an attempt to move him.  If that is truly the case anyone thinking we'd get a 1st or 2nd for him are likely going to be seriously disappointed if they find a trade partner.

It's possible they want him outta here for another reason besides his play. Same with Reddick.

They might get a 2nd round pick for him… I’m not sure they’d get a 1st though.

Could he or Reddick have been the mysterious "major player” who may not be with the Eagles mentioned in the recent Carton FS article?

is josh sweat that major of a player? Cox and kelce just retired. those two couldve been the ones that were referenced for all we know. sweat getting traded makes a lot of sense since he doesn't fit the scheme.

It’s like the fans to always think they are gonna get a pick about 3 rounds higher than the actual value right?

That's Florio's "guess"

Probably a 4th at most? Yay.
