March 11, 20241 yr If Fangio is going to run 3-4 then Sweat as a pure DE is clearly the odd man out, but the other problem with a 3-4 and our personnel is that Reddick sucks in coverage and isn't very good at setting the edge either. I hope we don't go into next season constantly playing a half assed nickel rather than true 3-4 because we have the wrong personnel, especially if it's because we spent 22 on a swing tackle.

My guess would be a 5th ... maybe a 4th (maybe a conditional 5th that can become a 4th if certain conditions are met).
March 11, 20241 yr I think Sweat is being done a little dirty here with talk of a 5th rounder, how many DE's have more than 17.5 sacks over the last 2 seasons. The answer is not many, if all you're being offered is a 5th you're better off keeping hold of him and taking the comp pick when he leaves in free agency.

I know he fell off second half of last year but everyone did. I’d not take less than a 2nd or 3rd plus change.

I'm saying 5th only because it sure seems as though the Eagles are shopping him (i.e. nothing to do with production). I don't believe they are receiving calls from teams interested in dealing for him, I think they are making the calls which obviously gives them less leverage on asking price. Anyway I hope I am pleasantly surprised ... guess we'll find out soon enough.

Certainly seems like the Eagles are the ones initiating it and as you said, means they'll get less in return. Ultimately, it's interesting that they seem to be okay with losing both starting Edge rushers, a position they covet. Makes me wonder why and if it's about something other than their play on the field.

McMullen is reporting the Eagles brass is not happy with how the DL performed - especially down the stretch - that they were not following designated assignments, etc.

Things were such a disaster, particularly on D, was anybody following assignments? Perhaps they were most notable, who knows. What a CF.
March 11, 20241 yr I remember an interview with him during the season, where he said that he was fine with his production and that the problem was that fans were not noisy enough when D was on the field during the the home games...so ho is not really relevant for me anymore...not that I considered him ever being above average DE

I'd be more convinced if they said neither was that good a fit in a 3-4, Reddick can't play run contain worth a lick and neither is worth a toot on a tin whistle dropping to cover underneath.

It raised an eyebrow when I heard that report.
March 11, 20241 yr Behind Sweat, we only have BG. Not a deep bench. The team is loading up at the other end in OLB/rusher. It may make sense to keep Sweat and draft a EDGE to develop and take over next season.

March 15, 20241 yr Oops. Howie telegraphed the trade and killed the market. Can't get them all right. Would be a real shame to see Reddick leave. Has been terrific, much better than this guy.
March 15, 20241 yr Kinda weird. His cap hit for this year was $9,077,000. So how is restructuring such that he now has $10M guaranteed this year better?
March 15, 20241 yr WTF is going on??!! So, what, now they will trade Reddick, since Sweat is staying????
March 15, 20241 yr Not a fan of this move. Howie played a poor hand. He should have traded him covertly and fleeced some DE needy team.
March 15, 20241 yr Well it's not like decent pass rushers grow on trees and Sweat is not bad so I'm fine with him staying. If he even turned down a better contract that sounds nice too. In the long run, keeping the younger player may be better.. especially if sooner or later Nolan Smith takes some or all snaps from Reddick. Hopefully?
March 15, 20241 yr Eagles fans if Howie would have traded Sweat for a 3rd or 4th round pick - TERRIBLE MOVE Eagles fans after Howie restructures Sweat's deal to keep him around - TERRIBLE MOVE

March 16, 20241 yr I this restructure move very mysterious. 🤨 Was this somehow cap-related (isn't it always)? 🥳 In anticipation of a trade? 🤫 To show confidence in the player? 😍 In preparation for June 1? 🤑 I look forward to see how this restructure is reflected in his OTC update...I think it will be a "tell". 🤔
March 16, 20241 yr I think Sweat wasn’t getting a lot of trade interest at the price we were looking for. I think he’s made the decision to stay where he’s happy and where he wants to be. I think that’s all that’s too it. Now Reddick is very likely to move on.
