Lol at the ones that said he was an edge not a linebacker. Vic knew from the jump he was a linebacker

Funny thread. Just goes to show that most people on here have no clue

These are the only two posts in this thread where the signing wasn't dismissed as insignificant. The rest of us look pretty clueless now.

Lol..I know a thing or 2 about a thing or 2..lol. So far so good right.Hopefully a new contract won't be an over spend.

Pretty funny to read over some of the earlier responses now that we've seen what he has become here in our defense.  Just goes to show ... you never know.  :-)

Like I said.... we've had really good luck with ex-NO players. Might as well be our farm team. Lol

The fact that this topic didn't even have a 2nd page before I bumped it sums up what most expected. I was definitely one of the ones that thought we were bringing in an "edge" OLB.

Fortunately for us, he's most likely an All Pro ILB. Unfortunately for Baun, All Pro Edge rushers make twice as much money.

Lots of crow to eat around these parts 🐦

True, but to be fair, obviously not too many GM’s or coaches in the league did either.  The idea of taking an edge and sliding him to Mike wasn’t on the radar and if that had been a reported strategy of the Eagles at his signing, I imagine the outcry would have been in the Tatergeddon stratosphere

I didn’t comment because I prefer to let things play out before making judgements

Yes, very courageous stance.  Sit back and say nothing and then whichever outcome occurs, poke fun at those that were on the wrong side of the prediction.

It really makes you wonder what is going on under the covers with the Saints.  Those guys had Baun for four years and apparently never saw any potential at LB?  That is just coaching malpractice.

I mean he was an outside pass rush specialist. Here the Eagles moved him inside and he’s just exploded. Fangio saw something others just didn’t. I kind of credit Fangio even more than Howie for finding Baun and using him correctly. In the end o don’t think anyone not named Fangio expected Baun to be this good. Heck the Eagles even signed Burks and  White as insurance policies.

Just because everyone saw things different than Fangio..doesn't make them dumb..it Just makes Fangio look like a freakin genius. In Vic I trust.

There was once an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day, his horse ran away. "Such bad luck!" his neighbors said. "Maybe," replied the farmer. The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it two other wild horses. "Such good luck!" his neighbors said. "Maybe," replied the farmer. The following day, his son tried to ride one of the wild horses, was thrown off, and broke his leg. "Such bad luck!" his neighbors said. "Maybe," replied the farmer. The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army to fight in a war.

Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by. "Such good luck!" his neighbors said.

"Maybe," replied the farmer.

Yeah I mean there are a lot of idiotic hot takes on this board, but no one could have seen this coming.

i suspect not even Fangio could have anticipated this though.

Fangio still gets credit for recognizing where Baun would play best. Especially since Howie signed him and stated he signed him because he thought Baun was projected to be special teamer and a back up edge.

Oh yeah - huge credit for both the identification and the coaching.
Baun will be such a difficult sign though. He’s going to be a pro bowler and potentially all pro. No doubt he is really good but he definitely benefits a lot from Carter and the D-Line keeping him clean.

I mean, to be fair, the Saints didn't even know what they had in him, and based on the meager deal he got with us, 31 other GMs didn't know either.
