Here's a trivia question I suspect most people will not get on their first guess or for that matter their third guess.

In the 50 seasons since the AFL-NFL merger (1970 to 2019), the Eagles have ranked in the NFL top 5 in most offensive yards gained in 9 different seasons, and have ranked in the NFL top 5 in fewest defensive yards allowed in 9 different seasons.  However, there has only been one season during that time in which the Eagles ranked in the NFL top 5 in both categories in the same season.  Name the season in which they accomplished the feat.

Gonna guess 08. Last year w Jim Johnson 😭😭

I will guess 1990. Not sure why, but feel like that was peak Randall and the D was great.

2008: the Eagles ranked 3rd in the NFL in fewest yards allowed on defense, but only 9th in most yards gained on offense.

1990: the Eagles ranked 3rd in the NFL in most yards gained on offense, but only 12th in fewest yards allowed on defense.

1996 4th on offense and 5th on defense. What do I win?

He was talking about yardage rankings

Did you know the answer in advance or look it up?

The 1996 season is the answer.

Yes and no. I figured it would be a season that was not an obvious one. I also knew the defense was really good under Rhoades and I knew Ricky watters and charlie Garner racked up a lot of yards together. So when I looked it up I looked at the obvious ones like the Superbowl seasons then the next thing I looked at was the Rhoades era

Yeah, the Ray Rhodes era Eagles were strange, particularly in 1996 and 1997 - they usually had terrible special teams (how Danny Smith has been able to coach in the NFL for 2+ decades after his time with the Eagles remains a mystery to me) and had a tendency to make key mistakes that undermined them, especially on offense, but in some ways were also very good and better than their won-loss records.

Another related oddity, for many of the same reasons as above - the 2011 "Dream Team" Eagles that finished 8-8 finished in the top 10 in the NFL in both most yards gained on offense (4th) and fewest yards allowed on defense (8th).

How much could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

A woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

Before looking at the thread, I guess 1989.

EDIT: Bad guess, but the OP gave away that it wasn’t the Super Bowl years.

John Gruden is one of the reasons for the offenses success.
