Posted March 15, 20241 yr No, I'm not going full-TATEr on this one. 😂 I saw it was being discussed in EMB Blog, the media and others have brought it up a few times this month now that potential landing spots have dried up, and I was surprised we didn't have a separate topic already. -- We need a backup QB, preferably one better than Minshew and Mariota. I don't think McKee is ready for that role yet. -- Hurts will likely miss a game or two just because of the way he plays. -- With Hurts here for the foreseeable future, there's little threat of him being replaced, and he has the personality and fortitude where a backup QB isn't going to phase him the way Wentz panicked. -- Fields would easily fit into this style of offense and could potentially be used in a Taysom type of role on certain plays. -- Since there's zero chance the team is picking up the $25M option on his rookie deal, it's basically the same as signing any of the remaining bargain-price free agents to a 1-yr deal, and probably way more affordable since he's only making $1.6M base this season. -- With Mac Jones only going for a 6th and Zach Wilson likely to go for even less, it would only cost a Day 3 pick for a 1-year rental. -- With Seattle and Arizona trading for dumped 2022 draft picks Sam Howell and Desmond Ridder respectively, and Nathan Peterman signing in New Orleans to replace Winston, that's three more potential backup destinations that are gone. At this point, who else is left that might trade for Fields? Denver? One of the LA teams? Won't be Washington or New England... they're taking QB at #2 and #3. -- Chicago is running out of options to dump Fields before they draft Williams and cause a huge headache in the locker room and with their fans, and I can't see them holding onto Fields until the trade deadline, hoping a desperate team with an injured starter comes calling. They have to get this done for something and save face. Just throwing the possibility out there. Will it happen? Dunno. It's Howie season though
