Posted March 17, 20242 yr Now that Kelce has retired...I am trying to understand what the new offensive line will look like in 2024-2025. Because he was so Good and so reliable!!!! (So many starts without missing a game.) Kelce left a large void in the center of offensive line that needs to be filled. Originally Cam Jurgen's was supposed to be the replacement. But he has been on the IR more times than preferred from a starting OL. His health status and reliability is of concern. Dickerson is an all Pro at Guard..and it would be foolish to move him to a different position. Even though I hear a lot of people advocating this move. Tyler Steen? looks like a guard more than the center. Jason Poe? is backup. Brett Toth is clearly a depth player and not a starting Center. Matt Hennesy is a right size to play center, but ....He just got here and is unknown at this point. We probably will add someone also in the draft..but we will not go far if we have to rely on the rookie to be our Starting Center and call plays. So the final question: Is Jurgen's healthy enough to become a full time starter??? And if not ....will Hennesy bring enough to the table to warrant a Starting position??? Too be continued.
March 17, 20241 yr Jurgens will be the center. They will try to force Steen at OG and maybe he improves there but the OG they draft in the 2nd or 3rd, after a trade down, will be the eventual starter at RG

Jurgens was on IR once back in 2023 with a foot injury where he missed I believe 5 games. I don't recall him being on IR more than that one time though.
March 18, 20241 yr I’m not ready to completely count Kelce out from coming back. Has he officially sent in his retirement papers?

It's normal to get injuries playing football. When playing on an offensive line, these guys are susceptible to getting their legs rolled up on and their arms and hands caught in bad situations. Look at Dickerson's college career ... several significant injuries due purely to bad luck. Fortunately he's avoided that so far in the NFL. The major "concern" is a product of the game, not the player --- unless that player has a history like Buckhalter, Burgess, Maddox, etc...

Misses time almost every year here then goes on to play 4 seasons straight without missing time.
March 20, 20241 yr Don't be surprised to see Kelce come out of retirement during the season if something happens to Jurgens.
March 25, 20241 yr Jurgens is the starter. Hennessy will be the back up C and probably gets a chance to compete for a starting guard spot with Steen. I can also see them going RT in the first and maybe they get a shot as well

Nah, at his age you can't just "ramp it up" and get into NFL football shape at the drop of a hat. You need a full training camp. Then again, Camp SiriSoft isn't much of a training camp.

March 27, 20241 yr right now Jordan Landon Hennessy Jurgens and Johnson are the best incarnation of the line (in that order) but properly investing in the future means moving Jurgens to center. I don’t know that it’s a 100% sure thing though.

We will se after the draft, during training camp how the position shakes out.

April 3, 20241 yr Cam's our Center ... plain and simple. He did "ok" at Guard, but that was out of necessity. Steen will likely have the first shot at the RG spot and we are likely to draft an OLineman with one of our first 3 picks to battle for that spot as well.

We definitely drafting an Offensive lineman at some point..But the question is WHEN? I have other positions Need ....ahead of OL. So if we draft OL later on..then the pick is just a project. If we do get one in the second round ..then he is projected to compete immediately. We will see how it goes. It is a good draft to pick an offensive lineman. It is also not such a great draft for some of the defensive positions that we need this year, other than CB. So a CB in the first is what I am hoping for.
