March 26, 20241 yr They need to get the port back open ASAP so the struggling dock workers can get paid again. Yes, I recently watched Season 2 of the Wire.

Gotta keep your options open. I'd take Clinton over him any day of the week, but good response. No reason to think otherwise. It's massive disaster and there isn't time/need to do anything but hope for the best.

The Army Corps of Engineers is pretty impressive. Two weeks after a hurricane knocked out the Sanibel Causeway in FL in multiple areas they had it "patched" and emergency vehicles and construction trucks were able to roll across. I'd think they could come up with a way to move enough of it to allow some to pass but I could be wrong.
March 26, 20241 yr How long was it between when they called that in and when the collision occurred? Was there enough time to close it off to traffic and get the workers off the bridge?
March 26, 20241 yr If you watch the video, a car went across seconds before the collision. It could have been a construction vehicle, but I didn't see flashing lights.

March 26, 20241 yr So Alex Jones has commented on this. He basically claims it was a cyber attack and that the act was intentional. Fox is making this an border issue and blaming Biden for it. Pathetic and disgusting.

There was also some pretty thick black smoke in the aft part of the ship. Sounds to me like a generator burned up.
March 26, 20241 yr Mayday alert as ship drifted towards Baltimore bridge ‘saved many lives’ https://www.yahoo.com/news/son-got-over-baltimore-bridge-144712389.html The 22-strong crew of the Dali container ship first realized something was horribly wrong at 1.24am on Monday night, when they lost power while sailing along the Patapsco River. The vessel was 30 minutes into a 27-day journey from Baltimore to Sri Lanka, carrying cargo for the shipping giant Maersk and sailing under the Singaporean flag. But as it approached the Francis Scott Key Bridge, Baltimore’s gateway to the Chesapeake Bay, the lights went out. The crew, helmed by two local "pilots” trained to traverse the bay, immediately contacted the Maryland Department of Transportation and issued a mayday call. Officials on land watched in horror as they realized it was too late to stop the ship drifting, and frantically closed both the road across the bridge and shipping lane beneath it. The ship’s power returned briefly, then turned off again, and smoke began to billow across the river.

Also local traffic to/from the eastern suburbs. Otherwise it was a longer, winding way around the city to use the bridge. The tunnels are the more direct route for most. I-95 Ft. McHenry Tunnel 116,000 per day I-895 Harbor Tunnel 77,000 per day Key Bridge 31,000 per day
March 26, 20241 yr 30 minutes into the journey. I wonder if this ship was retrofitted for more automation and it failed?

March 26, 20241 yr I wonder if some trucking traffic will use 301 and the Rte 50 bridge as a long way around? I see a lot of vessels traveling up the Bay and into the Elk River where I am and then thru the C&D canal out to the Delaware Bay. I took this shot of a ship before leaving one day and by the time I got up to Chesapeake City it was already past that bridge, and it looked so huge in that waterway. The Army Corp of engineers are always dredging every year as well.
