Howie can do it all when it comes to managing the cap. Need an example?

When you look behind the curtain, a cap exec named Jake Rosenberg is the one who grinds the numbers and makes it possible. He's leaving, and it's a bigger deal than you might think.

While Rosenberg, 48, may have toiled in relative public obscurity, he was Roseman’s chief strategist in player signings and acquisitions for years. He played a vital role in cap management, contract negotiations, and compliance with the collective bargaining agreement. Rosenberg’s job also included player evaluation and working with the Eagles coaching staff, along with the various departments within football operations and scouting.

To me, this is a bombshell.  Rosenberg's been with the Eagles forever, and heads up the salary cap side of the Eagles front office.  I would think it's a big hit for the team, but would imagine they have someone capable waiting in the wings.  I was concerned this offseason that some team would hire him away from the Eagles.  Looks like something happened behind the scenes that isn't being leaked.  Hope he's adequately replaced.

Eagles executive Jake Rosenberg leaving Philadelphia, hopes to become a GM elsewhere

By     Michael David Smith    Published March 27, 2024 11:51 AM

Eagles V.P. of Football Administration Jake Rosenberg is leaving the team when his contract expires after the draft.

Rosenberg, an old friend of Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman, told the Philadelphia Inquirer his goal is to become a GM himself, and that’s not going to happen in Philly.

"Over a pretty extended period of time I have just thought to myself that if it doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards for me to advance in this league, and have a chance to keep pushing and growing, that at the end of the day, what is involved to do this in terms of a life perspective, it’s not going to be worth it,” Rosenberg said.

Roseman said he hates to see Rosenberg go but understands why Rosenberg thinks it’s the right time for him to move on.

"I wish we could keep him, but he and I have always discussed how important it is to continue to grow and look for new challenges,” Roseman said. "He deserves the opportunity to become a free agent and whatever he decides is next, I know he’s going to be successful.”

Rosenberg has handled salary cap management and contract negotiations in Philadelphia, but did so under Roseman and would like to see if he can find an opportunity to be the decision-maker for another franchise.

"I’ve seen team building, I’ve seen turnarounds, I’ve seen just about every single thing that would be asked of somebody to do in terms of running a team,” Rosenberg said. "And Howie makes all the decisions and is the decision maker, but I would love an opportunity to continue to grow, to see if I could execute in my own way.”

Rosenberg originally joined the Eagles as the manager of football administration in 2012.

Best of luck to Jake Rosenberg.

Hoping he gets a GM / Assistant GM role somewhere after the draft.

Howie felt threatened.

They are not letting him go. He is leaving because he wants to become a GM, but Roseman overshadows him.

I mean, I don't think a single person on this board even knew he existed until recently when he said he wanted to leave.

Rosenberg is good with numbers, I'm shocked.

He wants to be a GM. There is no path to that in Philadelphia so he's exploring free agency.

Fire Howie!!!

Eagles have enough Generals, GMs and Head Coaches. Now they need to find more soldiers. Sometimes it is the soldiers that may be sorely missed.

Good for him. Whoever he is.

Some people need to spread their wings and fly the coop.

See what I did there. 🤓

C'mon folks, alot in the media need to relax! Don't listen to their hand wringing. Who do you think taught and colloborated with Rosenberg? Here's a clue - his initials are HR.

Joe Douglas used to be on the Eagles. Now Jets GM. Just traded with Jets.

Me thinks that there will be a trade or two one day with Jake Rosenberg's team.

or Andrew Berry's (Cleveland), or Andy Weidle (Pittsburg), or Jonathan Gannon (Arizona), or Shane Steichen (Indianapolis), or a host of other where our coaches and front off ice folks have been promoted to.

That's a big loss.

I guess we will finally see the hidden cap hell I keep hearing about. In all honesty I don’t think this will be as big of a loss as some may think. This guy was an understudy of Howie. Know the Eagles they have already been grooming his replacement. Good luck to him in his future endeavors, but I’m sure the Eagles will be fine without him.

I mean I guess we are going to find out? I thought he was really key to helping to manage our cap situation so we may really feel his loss. But we shall see. As you say I’m sure the organisation have been grooming his replacement.

Howie learned under Banner and this guy learned under Howie. Even when the Eagles get close to the cap or have situations like trading Wentz where everyone just knew it would cripple the team they would bounce right back. I don’t see how that all falls apart because of one man for an organization that constantly talks of collaborative efforts. On top of that so many guys have already left this organization to pursue paths in other organizations already and they haven’t skipped a beat. I’m not that worried about this.

No worries and best of luck.

Agreed. HUGE loss.

I'm not sure this organization will EVER recover from it.
