Posted April 8, 20241 yr The dude has been averaging 7 sacks per season in limited snaps. He is generally injury free. He isnt making a ton of money and was a 4th round pick. I know yall want 4 Aaron Donalds on the Dline before you are satisfied but i think we are very lucky to have Sweat. Or just compare Sweat to Chase Young who is a #2 pick and averages around the same number of sacks.
April 8, 20241 yr I don’t think people are down on him. He had a bad second half of the year but the whole team did. I think it’s fair to say he’s not a #1 DE and right now it’s between him and Huff so there’s reason for concern.
April 8, 20241 yr He disappeared last year and wasn't a factor rushing the QB or stopping the run for a good 10 weeks. For a guy you are relying on to be a starting DE and play a large amount of snaps he didn't produce or help the team much at all. There are also the reports that he went freelancing to improve his numbers and STILL didn't produce sacks which is even worse. Add in the fact that Fangio runs a 3-4 and Sweat can't cover, it made a ton of sense to trade him based on fit

If he was a #1 DE who gets 12 sacks a year he would be getting 25 million on the market and we wouldnt be able to afford him anyway. Pick your poison. Most teams have one #1 guy and a bunch of "other guys" on the Dline. Sweat is perfectly serviceable as one of those other guys. 2022 was an anomaly.
April 8, 20241 yr I'm ecstatic.... at least we kept one out of the 2 coolest sack celebrations on the roster :)
April 8, 20241 yr I'm not down on him, but, I'm not singing praises for him. I don't think he even touched a QB over the final 6 games last season. But, the whole Defense SUCKED. He was a part of that suckiness.

I think he’s a good #2 who’s shown upside but he’s definitely not a #1.

Why do you two keep talking about DE's like they are wrs with the #1 and #2 talk lol. It's not like one gets to rush the passer and the other doesn't because he isn't the #1 DE lol.

Some teams build to have 2. What I’m saying is right now we don’t have that stud DE. That’s what I’m referring to.

While I believe they should credit those as sacks statistically, they don't --- and topics like this are why it's a shame they don't. The other non-stat that fans completely ignore is offensive holding. How the refs call a game can have a big impact on a pass rusher's stat line.

I did the last 6 games but, if you do the last 7 he had 7 QB hits 3 in one game week 10. So probably in there somewhere he did
April 9, 20241 yr For about 10 weeks the closest he got to a QB1 was when he strolled past Hurts on the Birds sideline.
April 9, 20241 yr Poor rush discipline, and that seemed to get even worse down the stretch last year. He's good overall I guess, but not good enough to just do what he wants. At this point, don't seem him improving there.

April 20, 20241 yr He’s pretty underrated IMO. He had a down few games but overall he’s been a nice player. The pick 6 vs Dak will always be dope.

They weren’t helped by coaching and scheme. That said they also lost talent and that defense just isn’t that good right now.
