Posted April 19, 20241 yr It looks like we are going to have to wait a bit longer to get Rodgers on the field. Five other players who were suspended for gambling were reinstated yesterday - Rodgers was not one. Quote Eagles CB Isaiah Rodgers not among five suspended players reinstated by the NFL Glenn Erby Thu, Apr 18, 2024 Timing is everything, and for Eagles suspended cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, Thursday, April 18 was not the day. The NFL reinstated wide receiver Quintez Cephus, safety C.J. Moore, defensive lineman Demetrius Taylor, linebacker Rashod Berry and defensive end Shaka Toney off the reserve/suspended list. All five were suspended for the entire 2023 season. Toney will return to the Commanders roster. Cephus, Moore and Taylor were released by the Lions and are free to sign with new teams. Rodgers was the one name missing off of the list and that should be concerning for Philadelphia, since the talented cornerback was suspended around the same time last off-season. The suspensions were part of a more harsh crackdown on gambling last offseason, with the league banning players from betting on any sport if the players are placing the bets while at the team facility. https://sports.yahoo.com/eagles-cb-isaiah-rodgers-not-192019297.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAACJWR3N4BXcWisLxVm0kFitU7U_Gs8z48pYz0gFPEuEHM_gpwuxnRP48Q3-4HlfccH7AQ4lGqDdhavmipcRJhBA3ijnpuZ-YH9R6Z2kOqWkrSuULxcJfq_X_X_24lU-ME8fW6VTgjfMUsj_xywfHXtWcROTT85iDS7MenHFqo68_

Well he was suspended immediately after being found out and they didn't really have a policy in place yet to say for how long. So I'd imagine once they set up the new policy they probably could hand out the proper suspensions based off that policy. NFL makes sheet up as they go, plus the players association agreed to the policy so .... Idk. They still have his case under review so maybe they will look at that and reconsider since he did it beforehand.

Yes going forward 2 years will be the mandatory suspension, but Rodgers was given an indefinite suspension, so it can be as long as the League wants.
April 23, 20241 yr Goodell is more worried about how he can allow Rashee Rice to play on a work release program.....

April 23, 20241 yr This could affect the Eagles draft plans. There is chatter that they were going to pick a CB in the first round. I never bought that - it's not in Howie's DNA. But now, especially now, don't see that happening.

There has been a lot of talk recently that Howie was targeting CBs the past couple of drafts (Gardner, Stingley, Horn, Surtain in particular) but the board didn’t shake out to land one. However, I don’t know exactly how anyone would know that in order to be able to report it. If someone does have inside info and they leaked it they wouldn’t have that source any longer. Anyway, I’ve been feeling pretty strongly it will be either OL or DL so obviously that hasn’t changed.

I thought after the season ended, they would see Rodgers as part of the plan along with the young corners like Ricks and Ringo. They can spin it that Slay and Bradberry provide the veteran presence, bringing Maddox back and Fangio improving the coaching. Plus CJG strengthening the secondary at the safety position. They would argue they don't "need" a corner. I really just want them to take the best value regardless. If there's a guy that can be a top corner prospect, take him. Slay and Bradberry will be gone in 2 years and this guy could be your future. If they love an OT that is Lane's replacement, take him. You draft for the future core of your team hopefully for 8-10 years, not just the immediate season. Yes there's an element of immediate need and certain positions you probably don't draft high, but ultimately you want to look back in 2-3 years and see that you drafted a key piece to a championship contender.
April 23, 20241 yr Can Isaiah Rodgers bet on himself to win the 2024 Nasty Nate? Would he get suspended?
April 23, 20241 yr I don't see this changing the Eagles' draft plans at all. The Eagles likely expected Rodgers to be reinstated for the 2024 season. The suspension caused him to miss all of last season and prevented him from working with a team at all. I highly doubt anybody already penciled him in as a starter. What's good for his situation is that he's a good kick returner and has been involved heavily each of his 3 seasons played on special teams. He can find a role there while he works off the expected rust. Meanwhile, if the Eagles really are targeting a CB (or one of a couple) that they think can be a good fit for them with their first pick, this decision will have no effect. If Rodgers is the player he was when he last played, he'll add to the competition before the season and that's a good thing. I know Dillard was a 1st rd pick that didn't end up panning out, but I guarantee he helped push Mailata.
April 23, 20241 yr Super stoked about this. Brad & Slay are relics. We need an influx of proven youth. Hopefully he didnt develop too much rust during his layoff.
April 24, 20241 yr This guy is fascinating. He wasn’t a good prospect. He was a part time player as a pro and never that good who has now missed a year. People act like he’s a stud. This is Jack Ikeguano all over again.

Quote During the 2022 season, Rodgers was the fifth-best overall cornerback graded out by Pro Football Focus and the sixth-best cornerback in coverage. This has zero similarities to Ikeguano. One of the biggest differences is Rodgers has done things in the NFL. At the very least, he's a valuable special teams contributor, even if he fails to win a significant role on defense.

He's a JAG dude. He's defended 10 passes in his career, gave up the same QB rating in 2022 as Bradberry in 2023. If he wasn't suspended for gambling and the Eagles hadn't taken a flier on him, no one would be aware of him.

People act like he’s a stud. This is Jack Ikeguano all over again. I haven't seen a single person over value, over hype or get excited about him or call him a stud. He was a risk/reward type signing to see if he could contribute on special teams and depth in the secondary. For the Colts, he was a rising player they were developing. That got put on hold, and being off a year he will have to shake off rust and see what he can contribute. But you're taking the opposite route, downplaying him. You note he only defended 10 passes, true. He had 3 Interceptions though, that's quite a ratio. Check out this summary from CBS Sports: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-reinstates-eagles-isaiah-rodgers-from-gambling-suspension-why-ex-colt-could-be-phillys-secret-weapon/ Quote Although smaller (5-10, 170), the UMass product came out of college with "blazing closing speed" and quickly applied it on special teams, ranking third in the NFL with 28.8 yards per kick return as a rookie in 2020, while scoring on a 101-yard run-back. The following year, Rodgers logged three interceptions and seven pass breakups despite taking just 48% of the team's defensive snaps. Finally elevated to part-time starter in 2022, he stayed around the ball with four fumble recoveries and allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete just 58.6% of throws when targeted. Julian Blackmon, the Colts' 2023 breakout at safety, once insisted to reporters that Rodgers "needs to be on the field" because of his playmaking traits, and now, reinstated for the Eagles, it's not hard to envision Philly teammates saying the same. With Darius Slay Jr. and James Bradberry aging at cornerback, Rodgers offers both youth and experience on the outside. But in a year where the NFL is prioritizing the return of a meaningful kickoff play, Rodgers could also enter 2024 as the favorite to handle Philly's return duties, giving the team a built-in speedster at an abruptly important position.
