He didn't do anything wrong. Writers/journalists are allowed to write and report on any topic they desire. Two things can be true: you can think an article is stupid or pointless and a writer has every right to put out a piece on said subject matter. Right or wrong in this case = him breaking either libel laws or journalistic code of ethics, of which he broke neither.

I don't care about ESP getting criticism for his piece. That has no relevance to me. Criticize the piece all anyone wants, I don't care. I personally thought it was a stupid piece that was a waste of time too. I care about DeSean demanding he apologize and people demanding he be fired from his job. That's wrong. It's someone's livelihood and that amounts to someone making their personal disdain about ESP into something personal and trying to destroy the man's ability to earn a living. That is wrong. In this case, that is what the "chickens come home to roost" has amounted to, and that is not good. We see this a lot now and it's a bad trend to be setting. Joe Santoliquito had his front door kicked in over his Carson Wentz piece and received death threats. We've seen where this type of mentality can go left unchecked.

Issue is how you define the word "wrong".  If you define wrong as not breaking libel laws, journalistic code of ethics - then perhaps he's not wrong in the technical sense.  As far as libel, it's very difficult for a public figure to prevail on libel.  Journalistic code of ethics - perhaps no, let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

So if he was not "wrong" under freedom of speech and freedom of press, it would also be correct to say the DJax and the Eagles fanbase at large is also not wrong to express their respective freedom of the press and freedom of speech rights to put forth their positions that it was a hit piece in large part and mean spirited.  In a spirit of expression and free speech, the respectful thing to do for the institution of freedom of press and freedom of speech would be for ESP, as a member of the press who is now personally embroiled in a controversy, tell his side of the story.  Don't pretend it's going away.  Come out, defend yourself and your positions.  If you think there is something you want to say personally to DeSean, a hero to the Eagles fan base, especially from the heart, do it.  Be a man.

There is no controversy and there is nothing to go away. This is not an issue. It's was 8 people going at him on Twitter and it's over now. The media isn't covering this, the news isn't covering this. It's nothing. He doesn't need to address internet trolls. Those are the only people who care about his old piece. No journalist should ever have to defend their right to write what they want to, especially not to 8 internet trolls.

DeSean Jackson and considerably more fans than you care to admit think otherwise.  But by all means, proceed with your ESP worship.

Doesn’t really matter how many people it is. 12 year olds being pissed online is not news. It’s daily life on social media. No one who doesn’t have Twitter even knows this little spat exists. It’s not news or a story. He’s treating it exactly as he should treat it. Zero attention. Every second he wastes on online trolls is a second of time wasted on productive or important things.

That said, I don't recall the DJax story being "fake" or completely made up out of thin air.  I believe there was at least some truth to DJax associating with known gang members via his record label or whatever.  Not that DJax was part of a gang, just that he associated with members in some capacity.

I’m guessing back in those days, 10-15 years ago, this was 10-20% of players in the league… was just a different culture

Let me just get straight to the point because I’ve personally spoken with multiple players on the team and they all said the same thing: the problem was obscene marijuana use that coincided with relatively minor — but repeated — disturbances at his home involving neighbors etc. late at night/early morning that the team had to deal with.

Kelly wanted a team with only MJ/Kobe type mentalities.

That’s it. That’s the reason. It had nothing to do with gang association.

Never heard this one before. Not that it really matters anymore though. He couldn't stay on the field, went to a division rival, and admitted to playing harder against us even after Chip was fired

His significant injury problems didn't start until later in his career.  He was a handful while in Philly and had a rep for beating the tab at clubs.  But he was a terror on the field and took the offense to a different level the way very few, if any, at the time could.  Kelly didn't consider the latter part, and this was the beginning of the end of Kelly's career in the NFL.

As I said,  DJax did not suffer significant injuries until later in his career.  Your statement that he couldn't stay on the field is largely incorrect.  He missed a few games in 2012 with broken ribs, no injury in 2013, missed a few quarters in 2014.
