The real question is....

How in the world do we continue to trust Howie Roseman with decisions on QBs?

Wentz? Now Hurts?

Wentz was a great pick, and Hurts wasnt drafted to be a starter. Howie pegged Hurts correctly as a backup QB.

We can have all the Howie genius, draft great people, pick up free agents but it all hinges on Hurts. And from what I’m reading he is not doing to well. Still holding the ball too long. Oh yes, short passes are not too bad. I know it’s early but I have concerns that Hurts has already shown all he has, and we could be in for a long season. Hope I’m wrong

Look Kenny, I would rather they start Tanner than you if Hurts isn't cutting it.

When I hear what Jalen has been saying about all of the changes and his head coach I feel the same way I did when this all began and that this feels like a transitional year for the Eagles. SB caliber teams generally do not completely revamp the offense in one offseason and expect to really compete. I think Jalen sees the writing on the wall and that is Sirianni should have been fired. Now if this doesn’t work he will be fired and once again we will be back to another season installing yet another new offense. 95% of a new offensive install and we are all assuming this is just going to work? On top of that we do not have Kelce in the middle anchoring the line and kind of bailing Hurts out. Too many changes and there is not enough time to implement them. My advice is keep the expectations for this season and possibly next season fairly low.

Good grief. So much for it always being sunny in Philadelphia. Jalen Hurts is a fine QB, he's smart and athletic. Don't know what some of you have been watching the last few years

1 really good season and 3 not so good ones in his time as a starter.

1 out of 4 isn't so good.

Jeff Lurie knows it's a train wreck. He's trying to sell the team.

The Eagles’ big bet on Kellen Moore fixing Jalen Hurts will define their season (msn.com)

Also, Jalen Hurts can't be fixed. Not sure he wants to be fixed.

Trying to sell the team?

Where do you get your news?

Selling a minority stake is not the same as selling the team.  His kid is the heir apparent, so this team will not be changing hands anytime soon.  He simply knows you can't take it with you and would like to pull out some of the 7.5 BILLION this team is worth, after investment about 25 years ago.

This is a doom and gloom thread. It's an outlet for miserable people to bathe together in their community pool of negativity.

Hurts is the quarterback. He’s what makes this thing go. If he’s not good enough how can the Eagles be?

Complete fallacy. They drafted Hurts because they knew Wentz wasn’t cutting it. Wentz just wanted to bail before they were ready to cut him loose. Pederson doesn’t jump for joy in the draft room, because they just took a backup. Your boy Wentz doesn’t fold like a tent, because they just took a backup in the second round.

OMG, the sky is falling.

Can't prove otherwise until they play again in the fall.

Until then, Hurts still sucks.

He excelled in 2022 and was the MVP runner up under Steichen. He handled that mentally.

We complained all season about the coaching issues on offense. Even the WRs are commenting on the difference with the new coordinator.

True, but besides the guy calling the plays, the offense was supposedly the same in 2023.  And because Siri didn't change anything, NFL defenses figured them out.  The question is why didn't Siri change anything for 2023?  One theory is that he felt Hurts couldn't handle a more complex offense.  Another theory is that Siri got too full of himself and thought he could simply run basic crap because they were just better than everyone else.  We could list numerous theories as to why, but we'll never know the real answers.

For this year, we will see how well Hurts picks up and runs Moore's offense.  Of course, there are built-in excuses already if he doesn't perform up to expectations: "new system, he needs time, wait til next year!"  Or everyone's favorite about how since high school, Hurts has rarely ever had the benefit of running the same offense 2 years in a row and now he's had 3 different OC's in the past 3 years, etc etc.

Don't get me wrong here...I'm not saying that Hurts can't run a more complex offense and I'm really hoping he succeeds this year, obviously (we're Eagles fans, right?).  I just want him to show that he can process better and not have to rely on his legs as much as he does.

Hey it's time for mandatory minicamps and the complaints that the Eagles starting QB is no good are making their traditional appearance.

Just 3 more months of this until the football kicks off and people can be pleased they're right and we suck or deny they ever said anything and be slightly less pleased that we don't suck.

I'm starting a sweep on the date of the first 'It's time to see what Pickett can do' thread. the months of the regular season will be split up into 5 day blocks and drawn via RNG.* 5 bucks a block, winner takes all.

MODS is it possible to archive this thread and autobump it for next May 31st? Save people the trouble of retyping.  We could make it an annual tradition, the punksatawny phil of the EMB, bump the thread to survey the Eagles QB room and predict the doom be a coming for the Eagles season, because the QB is black / white / were drafted outside the first round / played small school college ball / was carried by big programs in the college game / has a noodle arm / has a cannon arm with no accuracy / runs too much / is no threat to run / can't pass over the middle / can't pass outside the hashes / can't throw deep / intermediate / touch passes / leaves the pocket too soon / doesn't know when to leave a pocket / we're conceding 30 points a game because he can't sustain drives / the offense is only scoring because the defense keeps giving him short fields.

Feel free to add your own to the umpteenth annual Eagles QB ****athon.

I blame our season on Stumpy Thomason / Norm Snead / Jaws / Randall / McNabb / Kolb / Bradford / Wentz / Foles / Hurts,  that son of a ****

* - I'm not actually doing this

I listen to Hurts talk, and he just doesn't sound thrilled about the scheme changing every year and wanting continuity. I see his point, but this is the NFL and you have to suck it up and get it done. He is throwing picks out there up to this point. He hasn't looked very sharp at all. These are facts.

But it's very early in OTA's and mini camp. He has some time to get it going, and the D is always ahead of the offense when it comes to camps. The OC and DC are throwing a LOT at them all at once- on purpose. So I am not surprised by anything so far. I don't like what Hurts is saying, but I am not going to worry about him just yet. The newness of it all is going to take some time, and I mean into the season about 5 or 6 games JUST TO GET IT GOING.

In the end, I think all of this is good for the Eagles as a team and org. It's The Great Reset- a much needed one. I think if we give them a little time to adjust, they will, and once thy do, they will be unstoppable. Hope springs eternal.

I don't take much from OTAs.  But I've been saying that Hurts development is doing well but he has a couple BIG issues he needs to resolve.  And that is speed of his progressions and decision making.

He looks too long at the first read, which is usually Brown.  Then too long at the 2nd and rarely gets to the 3rd read.

Part of his decision making is that he is not good at "throwing a guy" open.......what I mean by that is that he doesn't anticipate the receiver creating separation well.

Long read, waiting for separation and delivering the ball........and that takes too much time with 3.5 second pass rushes....

The utlimate test...

Would you trade Jalen Hurts to the Cowboys?

If you say yes, then he sucks.

For the first half or thereabouts I agree. Lots of changes to integrate. We'll see how the last few games work out.

I wonder if in addition to the pulling some bucks out of the team, selling part of the team - presumably forming a corporation, trust or similar entity will make keeping family control of the team thru succeeding generations easier. Without some planning, Once Jeffrey and his wife pass, it might be impossible for their heirs to pay the inheritance taxes due without selling the team.

I'm always nervous when i hear that Hurts is holding onto the ball too long. Tells me that he's a slow processor and takes too long to decide where to throw. Sure he can escape and run sometimes, but when the competition gets better, you gotta get rid of the ball quickly. I'm still not sold that Hurts is that guy.
