The Eagles have around 15 new veteran faces with a decent chance to make our roster in 2024, around 9 of whom are on "prove it" contracts. Another 4 are on the last year of their initial Eagles contract and as of yet have not received anew offer.   Depending how the year plays out, we will probably re-sign about half of this group (5).

There are about 37 or so players presenty on the roster (including drafted rookies) with multi-year contracts the will probably return in 2025. By my math, that will lleave us with about 10 roster spots to fill in 2025.

By the early "looks of things" we seem to be a little short of quality depth in the OT, TE, DE/Edge and S positions next year (if not sooner).

We have up to a year to resolve all thes issues. Trust in Eagles maagement and coaching staff to address these needs by then.

We have FA, trades, development and drafting tools at our disposal to accomplish continuing excellence.

FA might be an issue for the rest of this year, so my possible extension might not be in the cards. We have about $26M in cap space which is great BUT only $6M in 2025. I'd expect the Eagles to save the $26M and carry it over. then they'll have the $26M + $6M + whatever the salary cap increase is. That's about $0M for next year.

I'd expect the dradt to have a DE and OT in the first 2 rounds. TE and WR with our 2 in the 3rd. DE and DT with the two i nthe 4th. RB and IOl in the 5th.

Be prepared, we will pobably take a further cap hit this year if we move on from Bradberry. Conversely, that should free up more space next season. It's beyond my salary grade to put a dollar figure on how that will play out.

I had similar trepadation going into this off-season. I never expected to see us make any of those amazing FA signings (Barkley, Huff, CJGJ).

Due to our late season slump last season, there will probably be around 20 new faces on this year's beginning roster. This is perhaps a litltle above-average turnover, but not by that much.

I only see one probable starter becoming a FA in 2025 (Sweat). If that becomes a reality, DE will be near the top of the list in next year's draft.

It's really too soon to be very specific. Let's just enjoy this year.

P.S. I'm glad I'm  not a Cowboys fan...they're in a terrible state of affairs.

The draft makes the college season more interesting to me. Watching for DE's who look to be picks between 25 and 32 will be the first thing I'll be looking for.

PS - glad someone else in looking at this board.

I have my sights set on Patrick Payton.

DE, FSU

6'5" 260 lbs

He would be a steal if he lasts to the 20s...

A quote from Bleeding Green Nation:

EDGE RUSHER: Abdul Carter (Penn State) vs. James Pearce Jr. (Tennessee). Carter lined up at linebacker the past two seasons but will move to a primary edge rusher position this year. And the 6-3 260-pounder will thrive after posting 11 sacks in his first two years at Penn State. Carter has length, power and first-step quickness. "Carter is an ideal [4-3] DE to me,” said an AFC West college scouting director. "He has size few college ends have but doesn’t sacrifice any quickness or flexibility. He’s a top-10 player.” On the other hand, Pearce enters the season knowing his position and with scouts very familiar with his game. In the lead-up to the 2024 draft, multiple NFL evaluators told me Pearce would have been their top defensive player if he were eligible. Well, now he is, and the 6-5 rush end is a consensus top-five overall prospect coming off a 9.5-sack season in his first year as a starter. Pearce and Carter will see stiff competition from a very good defensive end group — players such as JT Tuimoloau (Ohio State), Kaimon Rucker (North Carolina), Mykel Williams (Georgia) and Landon Jackson (Arkansas) will be factors — but the top two spots are firmly locked in right now.

As you can see, there should be a generous group to chose from next off-season. Conversely, OT pickings appear to be rather slim compared to 2024.

There are still more players that desrve consideration, including Nic Scourton (Texas A&M), Jack Sawyer (Ohio State), and Princeley Umanmielen (Miss).

Worse case, we will be selecting the 32nd draftee and still have a shot at a premier edge rusher. Additionally, we should have sufficient resources to move up a bit to get a potential difference-maker.

Rob, you were pessimistic regarding FA. If true, along with BG retirement, Edge will be an obvious priority.

We'll probably need 2 on the edge. BG is retiring and Sweat is on a contract year. Sweat will be 28 and I really don't think 'Howie is going to write him the check he thinks he has coming. Oh -= and Patrick Johnson's deal will be up also.

DT will also be a likely need. Both Milton Williams and Marlon Tuipolotu will be free agents. if he has a good year Williams will rightly be llooking for starters money and we are already paying starters money to 2 1st round picks. They might keep Yuipolotu around just to avoid having 4 rookies on the DL.

TE (out backups just aren't good enough), RB Gainwell will be a FA) and LB will also be needs to fill.

If they don't resign Becton we'll need a backup on the OL,

My very early prediction -

  • 1 DE
  • 2 DE or DT
  • 3 DE or DT
  • 4 TE
  • 5 RB
  • 5 DE or DT
  • 6 LB

One can hope to see a few key FA retained, but the salary cap will be a limiting factor. Only time will tell.

In the interim, I'll stick with DE, OT, DT, TE and S as potential needs.

We've been pretty much idle on this topic since the pre-season. I noticed that we completely dismissed Zack Baun back then.

We had a higher than usual turnover of the roster this season (around 25 players).  Based upon how the season ended, it was probably warrented.

I don't forsee a repeat in 2025...especially if we re-sign several of our own players in free agency. If so, I can foresee immense competition for rookies landing on the opening roster. If we can retain most of our talented FA starters, I would be content to see us trade up to land a couple of premiere rookies.
