But many other states, including red states like Ohio, Indiana, and Missouri, have lost more or comparable percentages of manufacturing jobs over the last 5 years extending back a generation.Manufacturing makes up less than 10% of private sector jobs, compared to 30% in 1970. Manufacturing employment is falling worldwide as automation inevitably eliminates a large portion of the repetitive labor components. We're trying to to turn back the clock and chasing an economic dinosaur, Luddite.
