September 29, 20241 yr Lurie really doesn't fire Coaches mid-season, but if Siri can't get his head out of his arse, I can see him being fired if the Birds have like a 3-5 record mid-season.

My bet is he ends up back at the 49ers as the DC It would not shock me if Jets owner Woody Johnson, previously an Ambassador during the Trump Administration was hearing from New York and New Jersey GOP officials knowing Jets fans wanted Saleh fired for some time to fire him now instead of after the season as there are elected officials in very tight races in the New York metro area (including four House races on Long Island that is heavy Jets fans from their days when they were based at Hofstra) where such could take credit for convincing Johnson to fire Saleh and it leading to such candidate/incumbent winning their race by a narrow margin because of Jets fans who actually would vote for an official who took credit for Saleh being fired because THEY wanted Saleh fired. That is what the political climate has come down to where I can see this as the first-ever politically motivated firing of an NFL head coach as crazy and unlikely as it seems (and I do think it's unlikely, but it seems nothing is off limits anymore). And now there are accusations that Saleh was fired because he wore a Lebanese Flag on his arm during the London game: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/nfl/article-13930179/jets-robert-saleh-sparks-controversy-lebanon-flag.html

Obviously would have been better judgment for an embattled coach whose team was performing below expectations to separate football from political minefields - especially one that would irritate the owner.

Holy conspiracy theory Batman Players and coaches have been wearing flags from where they have family origin for a while. Sirianni wears the Italian one on his visor or shirt. Saleh has worn the Lebanese one before. It's not something new and it's not why he was fired
October 9, 2024Oct 9 And if he was fired for wearing the flag the Jets would be in for a huge lawsuit

I suspect that the Jets are actually making a play to land a Wednesday night game in the future. They can play the game late at night for the millennial audience, because millennials will watch things when they want to watch them. The Jets may also be interested in Nick Saban as coach, and it would be the right fit because Saban's wife wants to be the main spouse in a big city.

October 10, 2024Oct 10 Terri would never be "Queen of the Ball" in New York. That was a big reason why Nick Saban left the Dolphins for Alabama.

Like because of religion or race or whatever. If they fired him for making a political/social statement during a game and on his team apparel, I would think that they'd be covered in firing him if that's what the owner saw fit to do. Right or wrong, the coach is a representative of the owner during official team functions. He should take that into consideration before making any kind of political/social stand. I could be incorrect and his wearing of that flag could be 'protected' by some law for which he couldn't be fired. If so, I'd definitely be interested in reading about it.

He could very well claim it is that. The NFL have an initiative for coaches and players to wear flags on their equipment to represent their heritage. https://www.sportingnews.com/uk/nfl/news/nfl-players-flags-helmets-international-diversity/60b97948b64e49cea5eff7f7#:~:text=Why are NFL players wearing,on jackets for the games. Sirianni has been wearing the Italian flag, Mailata the Australian flag and a lot of other players and coaches including Saleh who has worn the Lebanese flag before So even if it isn't the Jets that would be in some crap, it would be the NFL who have the initiative in place

But that article is from 2023, is this still going on now? From another article that I just found, that initiative was apparently during weeks 7 and 8 of last year (I don't know about previous years or going forward). So if it's something special for specific weeks, that could play a part. All of that said, I sincerely doubt that the flag was the sole reason for him being fired. There could have been a heated argument about what's going on over there, or politics here in the U.S., or maybe he declined to go to the team Christmas party... oh wait, that was Chip... lol. But wearing the flag alone? I doubt that was the sole reason.

He wore it for a lot of last year as well
