How will Saquon Barkley Fare in Year 1 as an Eagle? (2024 Rushing Yards CHAMP! / MVP Odds Tracker)

Featured Replies

I almost think you need to have Jalen play the first quarter just to get back in the groove, hopefully they learn from the mistakes of not playing him at all during the preseason and how slow he started. If they was the coach I would challenge the offense and the team and say you have 1 quarter to break the record after that you could be pulled at any time.

He's a complete class act and deserves this. Great person, great player.

I bought his jersey last night. First Jersey i got for myself in 11 years. I also absolutely hate Penn State but, Barkley is the only one i cheered for that went to that school

I hope it's a good one, not like these

I say let him try to get the record next week. He likely won't ever get another chance at that one again. People talk about how many games he would do it in vs. Dickerson. That's irrelevant. What matters for like comparison is how many carries did he do it in.

As of today:

Dickerson got 2105 on 379 carries back in 1984.

Barkley has 2005 in ONLY 345 carries. That's a difference of 34 carries

That raises the question of can Saquon get 101 yards in 33 carries or less? If yes then he not only breaks the record but does it in fewer carries. THAT makes Saquon #1 all time in every way.

I don't expect him to get injured against the Giants or the WC, DIV, CONF, or SB rounds of the playoffs.

We won't see this opportunity arise again and neither will Saquon.

I say play him and give him the chance to make history.

I say give the starters the 1st half. I don't want Jalens first snaps back to be in playoff football.

Let him get back in a rhythm w the offense and Saquon chase the record. He should be able to get 101 w Hurts back in the lineup in one half vs the giants

Assuming he is cleared from concussion protocol in the next day or 2, I also think Hurts needs a few series to knock off the rust.  Play smart … don’t take any unnecessary risks.  Which would also mean playing the starting OL to keep him clean so why not play Saquon and let him get that record.  I want this for him.  Pull him as soon as he gets it.

Honestly if Hurts never gets concussed Saquon may have already broke the record

AJ himself wants the rest and to heal up...

Personally, I don't worry about injuries. If they happen, they happen. It can happen in a meaningless game or they can happen on the first play of a playoff game. But we do have a chance to rest some players without losing our current seed. The rest can be helpful for guys that are already sore from a long season. Most likely, Barkley would be just fine at the end of the game next week if we did play him, but the rest would be valuable.

For the pessimists that always expect bad things to happen, that believe all risk will end badly, well we did go into last year's finale vs the giants and Hurts dislocated his finger and AJ hurt his knee and Sydney brown tore his ACL. We can sit our starters and breathe easy, but we'll still have to field a team out there. No doubt this will be the giants' super bowl much like it was last year at the same time.

It could happen at home just walking around the house... like happened with Jason Peters and his achilles when he re-ruptured it in 2012.

Dan Campbell was in the same position last night ... does he play everyone in what was essentially a meaningless game (since the division and 1 seed was going to be determined in the regular season finale against Minny regardless of the outcome of last night's game) or not.  He played them.  He said afterward:

"I thought a lot about it,” Campbell said. "I ended up settling on the right thing to do is play these guys, because we owed it to the team.”

Yea, but its not just about injuries, its about rest.  Besides, you can't put him out there with a backup O-line and let him try to break the record.  You either go out there with the first team offense until he breaks it, or not at all.  NY will be stacking the box to try to stop the run, if for no other reason to save some semblance of self respect after letting Saquon walk in the offseason.

As much as I'd love to see him break Dickerson's record...I'm sort of hoping he plays the "let the other guys eat" card again.

Thats the thing some players want the rest and some don't. So do you only play the players that want to play and sit the others? Like you said you cant half ass it. Either they all play or they all sit.

He likes to be coy about his answers but he's the type of coach that would want to be aggressive and go for it. I'm guessing he tries to get him the record, plus Hurts some reps if he's cleared, and push hard for it. Then once he gets it, rest the starters.

Hoping for that while crossing fingers no one gets injured in the process.

Yeah, I said that somewhere else (maybe in this thread). The starting O would have to play for the record to be sought after and that risks injury to any one of those 11 guys, not just Barkley. So I'm good with whatever decision is made. (Which I'm 99% sure they'll rest everyone)

If they want Hurts to get snaps, play the starting O for a quarter or half, and go for it. If they're good with Hurts not taking snaps, rest the first three strings and start the 4th string. There's only two things to play for this Sunday... well, maybe three but one involves losing, not winning.

1. Get Hurts some reps
2. Get the all time rushing record

3. Lose to screw the Giants draft order

If they do #1, then do #2 also. As for #3, I'm not concerned about the Giants draft order. I want whoever's in Green to win, regardless of whether it's the 1's, the 4's or a Philly little league team disguised as the Eagles. (They'd still probably beat the Giants)

The only thing I really want from the 2024 season is a picture of two Eagles Super Bowl rings to use as my Avatar. If the all time rushing record is set vs. the Giants and nobody gets hurt, I'm all for it. But get me my new avatar picture and I'm happy! Well, that and having everyone use our Amazon link... (Had to do it one last time for 2024 :angel)
