Nick Sirianni will talk to everyone before deciding whether to play Saquon Barkley

Will the Eagles let running back Saquon Barkley attempt to get the 101 rushing yards necessary to break the single-season rushing record?

It’s still TBD. And the decision will be made after head coach Nick Sirianni talks to pretty much everyone in the building.

"I’ll talk to our staff, I’ll talk to the players, I’ll talk to [General Manager] Howie [Roseman], I’ll talk to Mr. Lurie. I’ll talk to everybody to try and make sure I’m making the best decision for the football team,” Sirianni said Tuesday on WIP radio in Philadelphia, via ESPN.com.

The question is simple to articulate, hard to answer: "What’s the best thing for the team and then also what’s the best things for the individuals going for the record?”

The best thing for the team is to rest Barkley against the Giants. The best thing for Barkley is to chase history.

If Barkley gets 101 or more yards and emerges unscathed, great. If he gets injured, not great.

Sirianni can talk to whoever he wants. In the end, it’s his decision.

Unless he lets Big Dom make it.

I think that unless Lurie (and Barkley) say 'go for it', he'll sit the starters.

I've gone back and forth so many times. 1 thing that shouldn't be a question... Hurts needs at the very least a series (as long as they don't go 3 and out) maybe a quarter. Selfish me, wants it all... but like I've said before, if Barkley plays, Giants will probably put all 11 in the box and leave the WRs uncovered. I know that's what I would do.

I'd give offensive starters the 1st half. We don't want Hurts first meaningful snaps in a month to be in the playoffs. His presence alone opens run lanes for Saquon to help him chase the record.  Unless he's like 2 yards away starters don't see the 2nd half.

That's jus my opinion but mine is amongst the millions that don't matter in this situation so we'll see what happens

That's my point though. Giants won't care about Hurts, AJ, and Smitty. All eyes on 26 and 26 only. I want Hurts out there with Gainwell. Lane could have a rest and throw in the other Johnson. Give Hurts, AJ, Smitty 1 quarter.

Welp so much for the record.  🫤

Well there you have it.

No record, no MVP, and a potential first round exit on deck with a QB that hasn't played in 3 weeks

Way to fumble everything at the finish line

There’s no guarantee playing him results in injury.  There’s no guarantee we win that first playoff game if we do rest him (and everyone else).

If we go on to win it all, then this means a whole lot less.  If we bow out in round one then this decision sucks.

Even if we win the Superbowl, we'll still look back and wonder why we didn't break a 40 year old record too

People comparing us to GB who are playing their starters this weekend, well it’s not quite the same.  We are locked in to the 2 seed … they are playing hoping for the 6 seed.  They very well may prefer to face the 3 seed than us.

This is the NFL, not the Girl Scouts.  LOL

Make no mistake … he wanted to go for the record.

You can already see where this is leading and it's no where good

I think it's beyond Fed up he asked Saquon if he wants to make NFL history, he says "Yes", and then Siri tells him to go get Fed. No NFL history for you.

Barkley said that he spoke to Sirianni and told the coach that "I’m down” to play while adding that he’d do everything he could to break Eric Dickerson’s single-season record of 2,105 rushing yards. Barkley called it an "opportunity to put my name in football history” and acknowledged that it might not present itself again in the future.

Barkley sitting, but he can still get a rushing record for the season including playoffs. 2476 is the current record.

What an incredibly difficult decision that was made... One that im on board with as ive stated multiple times. However, part of me wonders what would happen to this team if they cant get out of the first round of the playoffs....

Why didn't the rest of his conversation get quoted? He also said he didn't wanna put his teammates in harms way and that he's not here for an individual award, wants the SB. Lane also added by saying... we lost AJ last year and not a risk he would want to take.

I’m sure the concern about someone getting injured played a part in the decision but I think the bigger factor was rest. We had such an early bye week and I think over the last few games we’ve started to pick up more knocks. Nothing major but guys have missed practice or missed time in games and some of that could just be down to being worn down.

Was the right thing to do.

Just so happy I get to see a star runner paired with Hurts behind this line. Jurgens and Becton look great.. Elite receivers, healthy. Best defense..

You never know but this should be our year. I feel great about the Team.

I agree. It’s disappointing for Saquon and the OL. I can understand the frustration and disappointment I really can but it was the right thing to do for this team.
