I agree. It’s disappointing for Saquon and the OL. I can understand the frustration and disappointment I really can but it was the right thing to do for this team.

Yes. Added Bonus: Either our backups get to enjoy beating the Giants to end their season or we lose a meaningless game and screw up that draft pick even more.

Precisely! Don’t get me wrong I’ll a little bit disappointed he won’t break the record but this team has a real chance at winning the SB. That’s got to come first.

This was such a tough call.  The opportunity to come that close to breaking the record doesn't come around that often (only 6 other RBs have topped 2000 yards rushing in the 40 years since that record was set).  I really wanted that for him, to cement his name in the record books.  Hopefully the decision pays off.  We'll find out in the coming weeks.

Oh for sure I got the argument for playing him and it must have been such a tough call. I mean there was a lot that went in to the decision right! A lot to consider and a lot to contemplate. I got the argument to go for it and what an opportunity it was. I just thought the rest would be better for the team given the early bye. Let’s hope it pays off.

How close was Adrian Peterson to breaking it his last game to do it in? I know he ended up 8 yards short but, im asking a mich dod he need going into the game to break it?

He had 1898 rushing yards after week 15 heading into the regular season finale so he was 207 yards short of the record.  Crazy that he logged 199 yards in that last game and fell just 8 yards short!  That had to be heartbreaking for him.

I was surprised to see that Henry in the last few years came very close? I mean I wasn’t surprised given he’s a monster but the way it’s been talked about it’s as if nobody has gotten even close… Henry was like 50 yards short.

He topped 2000 yards in 2020 (2027 total rushing yards).  His next best season is this year where he currently stands at 1783 ... 222 yards behind Saquon.  The Ravens play the Browns on Saturday and are playing for the division - that is the earlier game (Steelers play the night game on Saturday), so he will definitely play and honestly not impossible for him to log enough yards to leapfrog Saquon for the 2024 rushing title.

Henry was within 52 yards of Saquon following their week 16 game against the Steelers when he logged 162 rushing yards (not sure if your comment about being 50 yards short was of Saquon's total or the all time rushing record).  But that game was played on a Saturday and the Eagles had yet to play their week 16 game (that was when he logged 150 yards against the Commanders ... Henry was really only close later in the season when he had that extra game to play since they had a much later bye).

Sorry my comment was about him being within 50 of the all time rushing record. I thought his best ever was 2050 yards so I thought he was very close to the record. But thank you for confirming actually his best ever season was 2027 yards so he was about 80 yards off the record.

I'm sure I'm in the minority on this but to me the only way it pays off is if we are hoisting a new Lombardi trophy on Feb 9th.  If we bow out of the playoffs early then I will look back at this season as a huge wasted opportunity for one of our own to cement himself in the record books likely for the foreseeable future.

Anyway, Saquon may not get the all time rushing record (at least this year), but since his regular season has come to an end, he is the only player in NFL history with > 2000 rushing yards, 13 TDs and an avg of > 5.8 yards/carry so there is that.  :flex:

100% this comes down to what we do from here on out. If we don’t make it to the SB then this was a missed and a wasted opportunity. But make it to the SB and I think the decision will be vindicated.

If we don't win the Superbowl, then we'll have done Saquon dirtier than the Giants ever did. Completely wasted his legacy and chance in the history books for nothing.

Part of me feels like ownership benched him to protect Mara. Mara is embarrassed enough, letting Saquon break the record against his former team makes all the owners look bad so they looked out for their friend.

If I was Saquon I'd feel completely disrespected by this team.

You have a lot of ridiculous, overly emotional and out there takes on this.

Seth definitely got that old school mentality.

I mean hindsight is great, but regardless of what happens I still think that it's (just) the right call.

I respect Seth Joyner as a player, but in his prime with the Eagles he only won one playoff game. Simple fact is if the record wasn't in play, the Eagles would rest their starters given no bye since week 5 and the possibility of injuries in a game which doesn't affect the seedings. Look at the Chiefs. They already have a bye and they are still resting their key players in week 18 for those reasons.

I definitely get the injury concern.  We’ve seen it first hand … AJ Brown (just last year in the regular season finale … coincidentally against the Giants), Westbrook in the regular season finale in 2003, etc.  Honestly I’ve had a greedy outlook wanting both … the all time single season rushing (IMO that would have trumped MVP) and a Lombardi.   But obviously a Lombardi >>> a record.  Now fingers crossed (and extra prayers to the football Gods) that we are able to realize that dream.  :towel:

Sad about the record but I am very proud of Saquon and thankful he choose to come to Philly.   He's been a game changer for this season and team.   I knew he would a great fit, he helped to propelled us back into Super Bowl Contention in his 1st year.   Greatest year ever by an Eagles Running Back. This was also Saquon 1st ever Division Title in the NFC East after years on the GMen.  Hopefully he can walk off the field with his teammates as a Champion on Super Bowl Sunday in New Orleans (Also Saquon's Birthday).   .

I really do think it’s more about the rest though. With such an early bye I think the players needed a rest. Yes injuries are a concern but they can happen at any time. Saquon could get hurt in practice or could get hurt at home (unlikely I know). But if they want for the record that would have meant all OL starters at least.

He did break the 2000 so he is in the books. Let him have a goal for next year.

Possibly more mate. I mean if it’s McKee (which it will be any way) Dotson and Johnny Wilson then the Giants can just completely focus on the run.
Plus if we rest our starters on D, the Giants may be able to put together a few 7/8 minute drives, limiting the Eagles possessions.

Yeah I think it’s going to be a pretty messy game. Not sure I’ll watch in full I’ll probably put it on my phone / iPad and have red zone on the TV.

I think there is an equal level of concern over resting the starters (essentially a bye week) and losing the momentum they've built and coming out rusty in that first playoff game as there is of injuries in a meaningless game.  Not quite the same (qualifying statement) but look at the college playoff bracket where all 4 of the top seeds (that had that 1st round bye) got bounced by the lower ranked teams.

Add on to the list of concerns another day without Hurts practicing, and it's looking like he's going to miss the wildcard round entirely.

I feel our new regret may be resting the starters when they'll need all the reps they can get with Tanner.
