How will Saquon Barkley Fare in Year 1 as an Eagle? (2024 Rushing Yards CHAMP! / MVP Odds Tracker)

Just manage his run load, don't put everything on him like the Giants did.  He will do fine in our Offense. I'm excited to see what Saquon does here because it's a good fit to me.

I do think he fits well here and I know they’re going to load manage him, but I am worried about them giving Gainwell too many touches at the expense of Barkley. Do we have to slam Gainwell into the line in the red zone every time and then bro shove? Perhaps they need to consider not putting Hurts through that type of wear and tear every game especially since teams are aggressively trying to stop that play to the point of taking illegal shots on the quarterback too. Ranting a bit to say give Barkley the ball.

With Barkley the Eagles offense is going to be a run first offense setting up play action passes.

I think part of the worry though is what offensive line will he be playing behind? Will it be better than the Giants? Absolutely. Will it be a top half of the league line? Probably. But I don't think it will be the dominant top 3 (and in fact probably the best) offensive line in the league like we've become used to.

Why not?   I know a few people are citing kelce' retirement as a reason for a step back, which is a legitimate concern.  But I also think the Jurgens is being underrated as his replacement.

I think there will be some growing pains, but I think he gets better and better as the year goes on.

As far as RG, Becton is getting more and more familiar with that role and he's an athletic monster......if he stays healthy, he could be really impactful.....baldinger thinks he could be a real road grader..

If Jurgens and Becton don't work out.....then issues might arise.....but I just can't see it.....they both have starting experience and the confidence of Stoutland.

Extremely well. 😎

Unless the O Line has some injuries. I feel like the depth there is blah.

Why not? Yeah because we’ve lost a HoF player in Kelce and last years RG has moved to C. I’m not worried about Jurgens right now, I think he’s going to be a really good player but he’s a step back from Kelce (any C would be). And at RG yeah Becton is a great story and he’s a monster so maybe that works out? But maybe it doesn’t. At this point in his NFL career there is more reason to think it’s not going to work that it will.

I’m not saying the OL is going to be bad. I really don’t think it’ll be bad. But I don’t think it’s going to be as good as we’ve become used to.

We still have 3 all pros on the line......and Lane Johnson has spoke well of both Steen and Becton....that alone gives me confidence that the RG position will hold its own.

I look at how a player was drafted, how he was used as a rookie, how he was coached and obviously, injuries.

Becton had a very good rookie year......got hurt his 2nd & 3rd year, and had a challenging 2023 at LT coming back after 2 years of rehab.  Not an unusual occurrence.  And typically, the jets lost patience and let him walk.  So a **** team, a couple of unfortunate injuries, and a decent but inconsistent year and he's let go.

To me, that's a huge opportunity and Howie jumped on it.   Stoutland agreed and can see the potential.  With the opinions of Johnson and Stoutland, that gives me more reason to believe that the RG position will be better than it has been the last few years.

Jurgens is a Kelce clone.....physically.  He's also had a year of mentoring from Kielce and Stoutland.  Something Kelce didn't have in his first couple years.  Again, Kelce has spoken highly of Jurgen's abilities.  Obviously, going from a HOF to a 2nd year player, there is a drop-off......but I don't think it's going to be drastic.

And, as always, these guys have to stay healthy.....

And look bud that’s all fine and I’m not saying it’s going to be a disaster. We know how good LJ is, we know Dickerson is a top LG and we know Mailata is really good. But there’s no doubt about it there is a backwards step at C and there are some concerns at RG. It doesn’t mean it’s going to be a disaster and it might be really good… But there are concerns and there are question marks.

Hopefully not DeMarco Murray v 2.0

I’m not as optimistic about our OL as most but he’s a special player. I think he’ll have over 1,500 scrimmage yards and 10-12 TDs if he stays healthy.

Outside of Kelce retiring, what worries you about the oline?

RG, new center, I think Mailata is a tad overrated, and Lane will probably miss anywhere from 2-5 games with an injury.

Also… they sucked at the end of last season

Yup, All of this. They are an overrated group, and the depth, or lack thereof, is kinda scary.

So was Duce and Shady, but the Eagles Oline were really good at running screens too. McNabb’s most accurate pass was a screen. 😂🤣😂

It's true. Wasn't Westbrook the leading receiver one year?

I agree with you at RG. Lane is always something to worry about. I'm a fan of Jurgens. I think he steps in and the Eagles do just fine and continue to roll at that position. No one will ever replace Kelce. Having learned under Kelce for the last 2 years, he'll be ready. Plus he's got the GOAT Stoutland. I like the depth we have also

Disagree. Imo, we have better depth this year then we did last season. Steen, Keegan, Kinnard, and Fred Johnson are all solid. Steen has a nagging ankle. Hopefully that doesn't linger much longer

Saquon currently ranks 3rd in the NFL with 658 yards rushing (9 yards behind Jordan Mason for 2nd, 215 yards behind Derrick Henry for 1st).  It should be noted that both SF and Baltimore have played 7 games while we've only played 6. He's unlikely to catch Henry who by all accounts is have a career year ... heck, an all time great year.  But he is definitely earning his pay here, for those who doubted the signing.

You mean he’s unlikely to have gotten 215 in that extra game? 😉 I guess if he played a whole extra game against NY he may be leading the league in rushing right now.

I think it is pretty safe to say Barkley has been much better than anyone predicted (even those that were initially high on the signing likely didn't see him having this much of an impact) and likely not a stretch to say he has been this team's MVP through the first half of the season (slightly edging out Hurts).

Yes and I stated exactly that (I specifically wrote ... "He's unlikely to catch Henry who by all accounts is have a career year ... heck, an all time great year.").

Dude it was a joke.

Hard to tell around here (and then adding the little winky emoji made it even less obvious).

He only needs 125 in the extra game now (they're 1.3 yards per game apart), the thing that will put Henry over the top in MVP if they pace each other is TD's, Henry has 5 more TD's in large part down to our tendency to use QB Sneaks at the goal line.

Hopefully they give him the ball instead of having Hurts run it in when they're in the redzone

Would prefer they severely limit Hurts running and give the ball to the RB that's paid to take the workload

Well that didn't happen but Barkley is still doing great

I also think Henry is probably going to run the ball more as an average as the year goes by. I think Barkley will either miss a game or two or hopefully they’ll get to a position where we can give him less snaps to save him for the playoffs.
